Overclocking 580 GTX on WC - Battlefield 3

Hello

So, I tried overclocking my two 580s and I was really happy until I ran BF3. My VDDC was 1.138v, core clock: 920MHz, shader clock: 1850MHz and memory clock: 2100
I played Assassins Creed: Revelations for a whole day without a crash with those settings also ran Furmark without problems but when I launched BF3, my PC just locked up and I had to reboot. So I reverted back to stock settings, and now I play BF3 fine. My temps never exceeded 47° while playing battlefield and 51° was max in furmark. Could you guys post your 580 OC settings that run stable on BF3 for you? I know BF3 is GPU demanding game and overclocking varies between each card but if some of you post your stable clocks I might be able to narrow it down more.

Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by "post your OC settings"?

It's a graphic card nit CPU/motherboard,there are only three variables to deal with: Vcore for GPU and memory/core frequency..

You simply need to find your card's stable clocks with certain voltage (EVERY CARD IS DIFFERENT, so other user's settings may not work out for you)..

For stability do not use Furmark as IT'S USELESS!!

Use Crysis 2 bench loop or at least 30 min gameplay, also Crysis or Warhead is good..

Use 3DMark 11 loop (20 minutes) and Ungine Heaven benchmark loop (20 minutes)..

If you pass all of those at certain frequency (OC) then you're ROCK SOLID..

CHEERS..

Is it really necessary to run those 3 benchmarks? Isn't 1 of them enough? Feeling kinda lazy, increasing / decreasing clocks with 10Mhz increments then 70 minutes of benchmarking rolleyes.gif

I use OCCT to check my GPU's stability. 15 min per test until it gets unstable, then I back it up a bit and run it for an hour. If it passes an hour of OCCT, I've never had any problems elsewhere.

KingT is absolutely correct in his post/

You may be able to run OCCT but GTX 570, 580 & 590 owners will find no reliability in running OCCT or furmark.

With these newer cards, Nvidia has introduced power draw limiting circuitry to stop the cards from over drawing power during the stress test, thus negating the purpose of the program.

Fallbacks to test clocks are now Heaven benchmark and / or 3Dmark 11 and /or a few GPU intensive games eg Crysis.

Im sad, coz I loved OCCT frown.gif

I run my watercooled 580s at 900/2300 for BF3 without issues. Of course with V-sync enabled, this only puts about a 60-70% load on them...what kind of load are you seeing on yours?

oh dear me, I totally forget about v-sync. I probably have it off since the load on my cards are usually always @ 97-98% when playing BF3. I have a 3D 120hz monitor though so its gonna draw 120 fps instead of 60 so it might not make a difference but i'll check it out.

there you go bro. bunches upon bunches of results. thats the cool thing about the search button, usually you dont need to start a new thread.

it might be your mem overclock because your core sounds stable. but go to the link i posted for help.

and use the search button next time.

Yeah, they kinda snuck that one under the radar frown.gif

I was testing insane clocks with OCCT when I got my new card, thinking I had a golden chip... until I started to fold and game. Crashed and burned badly doh.gif
