That is very true, but in Red Alert you can play as the invading Russian forces.

Red Alert can be classified as sci-fi and is as serious as austin powers. And anyway, it was banned after 9/11 at least they cut some parts. MW2 is an america centric game so im not sure what you mean?

I disagree. Would there be corporate pressure and/or public outcry, yes. See the Medal of Honor "Taliban" Opfor about that. Economic pressure, sure.

BUT: an outright ban and police raids? I doubt it. We have censorship in the U.S., but it's mostly corporate (e.g. ESRB, which is non-governmental)

RE: plenty of games where the US gets destroyed or invaded...

then US of America usually comes back and wins. The main game I think about where the US is obliterated is the Fallout series which is made by a US company.

Honestly, I don't see why everyone is blaming the US for one, and all the citizens of the US for second. DICE is a Swedish company, albeit published by EA. They could have chosen a non-US nation to be the star and they could have created another Ubiquistan to fight against, but they chose the US to star and Iran to be the enemy (and then the Russians in multiplayer) because that's what's selling right now. If there were a game about killing US soldiers, would I like it? No. Would I hate it? Probably. But I'm pretty certain a large number of us wouldn't much appreciate killing the British either. We've buried that hatchet back when hatchets were still widespread implements of war. I really didn't like shooting at digital French cops, either. I'm sure all of you non-US citizens hate it when "some American" brands all Europeans as something - for those of you branding us, can we not have that blanket categorization back at us?

Edit: I might've overreacted... I'm just tired of the hate for this country and everyone in it. I don't think I can delete the post so here's a disclaimer instead.

MW2 is just as fictional and ridiculous as Red Alert was, if not more so. BF3's campaign is awful anyway.

Hmm.. I don't recall any problems with all the games where the US gets invaded by (usually) Russia.... Russians probably just laugh and enjoy the game with vodka, though. biggrin.gif

I'm mad at GTA IV for having gas prices at their level.... it's offendingly low priced. rolleyes.gif

And yet once again the facts are overlooked. The U.S. gets invaded but gamers never take part in the invasion. I have yet to play any game where it allows you to play as the invading forces.

Red Alert 2's box art was New York city on fire. Shortly after 9/11, the graphic was removed and replaced with just the guy and no city in the background.

Might I remind you that in that game, you can play campaigns as either the US or Russia. As a Russian general, you destroy many key United States landmarks. I didn't see the secret service banging anyone's door down about that one, and the game sold millions in the U.S. alone.

It's all about censorship. Some countries just can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that IT'S A GAME!

You mean like this?

Watch from the beginning until about 17 seconds into the video. Just because you haven't played it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Red Alert 2 wasn't even a serious RTS game and wasn't based on current events. In fact, the game was a cartoony Sci-Fi RTS.
