RAM Stress Testing

Which between Memtest and Memtest86+ is better for stress/stability testing RAM modules? I have 4x2GB Ripjaws X 1600MHz CL6 modules. How long is the recommended stress time to confirm stability at stock settings?

Memtest is awful for testing for stability. I have had ram pass memtest but fail prime blend and HCI. Give HCI a try: http://hcidesign.com/memtest/

A quick guide from the anandtech forums:http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?s=2cad632b9d54be822fb216481282cefc&p=32341719&postcount=1

HCI memtest is superior to LinX, Prime (large or small), and memtest86+ for determining memory stability.

Launch one instance per thread supported by CPU (8 instances of HCI memtest for 2600K)
Set each HCI instance to use an appropriate fraction of the memory...16GB on a 2600K means each HCI instance (there will be 8 instances) are to use 2048 MB.
Stability Criterion: Must pass 200% coverage minimum, passing 1000% coverage is preferred (considered gold standard)

Dope, I don't have Windows installed yet with my Brand New system frown.gif

This is the first time I heard that Memtest is awful for memory stress testing, when was this concluded?

So HCI is the most recommended program to use?

Its not concluded, its just my personal opinion after using these programs. Memtest turned out to be a waste of time with two different sets of ram.

Oh ok. How was it a waste of time though?

If stress testing, is it OK to populate all the 4 RAM slots of my motherboard?

Also, I thought that Linx (based on the Sandy Bridge Stable thread in this forum) produces more heat than Prime95 and it's kind of useless because our everyday processes most likely replicate the load that Prime95 does?

The "blend" setting on prime95 is an excellent way to test your ram's stability and overall overclocks without stressing the cpu too much like IBT.

What do most of you people use?
"blend" on prime or memtest86+. never used HCI before, might give it a go but i've never had memory pass the blend on prime and fail on me in another application, and i stopped using memtest a long time ago because prime is easier
