Thread Starter
im looking to overclock my C2Q Q9550 @ 2.8 from what i have read the prossesor is a good overclocker but my MOBO(MSI G31TM-P35) on the other hand has limited OC abilitys.im not looking for a massive boost atm but i would like to see if i could get a little more out of it with my limited MOBO abilitys.

please could anyone give me a hand here?

cheers SK

Is it E1? I had one and it was a great OC-er. Except those 6 noisy fans:), what are you cooling your proc with?

Sorry, E0 was the one I was talking about. Long time since 775 socket. But, with just stock cooler you can't do much. Try increasing FSB with stock voltage and see where will that get you in terms of OC and temperature.

Well, try a slight OC, just keep your eye on temps when testing it.

Well, it will probably work to some extent. The only sure way to know is by trial and error:), so go on and try it. biggrin.gif

Raise the cpu bus frequency 10 MHz at a time. But, while you do this you'll have to use the RAM multipliers/dividers to keep the RAM speed down, at or as-close-to the stock speeds as possible.

Have you disabled all the throttling features in your BIOS? C1, C2, EIST....

Go up 10 MHz at a time til it won't make it into Windows anymore. Then bump the vcore up a notch or two.

#1 Disable all the throttling features.

#2 Open Real Temp and at the top you'll see something called VID with a voltage under it. Write that down.

#3 Go into your BIOS and manually set the cpu voltage until it shows about that VID voltage (from Real Temp) in the program called CPU-Z. Maybe go up one notch.

#4 Start raising the bus speed by 10 MHz at a time until it fails to get into Windows. *Be sure and keep the RAM speeds in check.

#5 After you fail to fully boot, go into the BIOS and raise the cpu vcore by a notch or two and go a bit higher.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

If you are using the stock cooler you could maybe do about 3.6/3.8 on the 9550. It'll come down to how your board handles the power it requires for the overclock.
