Building a PC for a friend - need som comments on the components

Hey guys!
These are the components I've chosen so far:

Case: CoolerMaster HAF 922
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197

Mobo: MSI P67A-GD65 B3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130574

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16 GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233197

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti 2GB (x2)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127608

PSU: Corsair AX 850W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139015

I'd be grateful if you could post your thoughts on the build, if there is anything I should change etc.
I'm trying to keep his cost somewhat down, while still getting him quality parts.

I'd especially like some input on the mobo and PSU.
Would that PSU be able to handle GTX 560Ti's in SLI? I assume it will, but I'm no expert on the matter.
Also I chose the MSI mobo because I own an MSI brand mobo myself, and haven't had any problems with it. It also comes with OC Genie.
I know auto-overclocking isn't the best, but my friend doesn't know a whole lot about OCing, so I think it would be a good solution for him.
I've heard auto-overclocking may cause some problems, but OC Genie has worked just fine for me in the past.

that looks like it should work. the ax850 should easily handle SLI 560s, Is this for gaming? the main danger that auto OC poses is that they tend to get rather volt happy with the Vcore. This can be especially dangerous with Intel core processors as they seem to have issues with core degradation when overvoltaged. Also you may want to get an aftermarket cooler if you plan to OC I've heard the intel box cooler is pretty crappy.

That PSU is more than enough for those two cards. It's a nice PSU but quite frankly I think it's a bit too pricey, you might want to go for something like the HX650 instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012 It's $119, modular, and 80+ bronze.

Since it's a 2500K, I wouldn't bother with the overclock genie since setting the multiplier is just as painless and you're pretty much guaranteed at least a 4.5 GHz OC without touching the voltages.

Speaking of overclocking, what about a CPU cooler?

seems ok to me.
Which monitor on PC
will then be purchased?

Thanks for the reply guys, I'll check out the PSU and Mobo posted!
I thought the PSU was a bit pricy as well, but I've heard good things about the AX series, if I could save him some money that would be nice though smile.gif

Would 650W be enough to power both GTX 560's?
I don't really think he'll buy a CPU cooler, not at first anyway. He's not really in to overclocking I think tongue.gif
.. but I'll get him to at least OC the CPU some..

@ beers
I have no idea which monitor he'll buy.

Only thing what i would change :

- only 8 Gb of ram is more than enough
- i am not a big fan how that case looks. Probably a Corsair 400R ...
- AX750 or AX650 would be ok for SLI.

my vote for psu is hx750 or hx850. Cheaper and semi-modular. 650w would cut it close. i reccomend at least 750w
the memory is a little overkill.

I think the memory is overkill too, but he said he wanted 16GB (and yes I've told him there's no point in having that much of RAM, at least not for gaming). I like the case, I have it myself. Both practical and good looking IMO.

I'll let him know about your PSU recommendations, thanks for the input smile.gif

Go for the ASRock P67 Extreme4 Gen3, it is a much better mobo. I went from an AMD MSI board to this board, and I must say, It impresses me way more. It makes overclocking a walk in the park.

Also, grab some low voltage ram, so when he does decide to OC, it will be easier for him with the low voltage ram. If he really wants 16GB, he can just grab 2 of those sets.

Regarding the CPU cooler, he should really just grab one now so you can put it in for him, the 212+ is plenty for starting out OCing and is only $25.

You say he doesn't want to OC, just wait he will. tongue.gif That's what I thought too xD
