6850 not overclocking/opening anymore :(

post #1 of 9
Thread Starter
I know there have been a ton of threads about how to OC the 6850's (using Afterburner, agree to EULA, etc..) so sorry about this repeat, but this is weird.

Earlier this year I was able to get around the clock and volt lock no prob with Afterburner BETA and did quite a few benches at 920/1150. I tried to start overclocking again on my new build (same card as before) with Afterburner and it will no longer open up the GPU clock past 875mhz. I have already put in the sentence that is needed for the EULA and set the value to 1, but still no luck. What I think it more odd is that before i had issues opening up my V and not the GPU, but now it is the complete opposite. I have no prob opening up the V and the Mem sliders, but the GPU just will not open up past 875.
It is not a black edition card or anything like that either. Is it something w/ new ATI drivers that might have restricted it now or.....?
I am totally lost though
thanks

now afterburner wont run and keeps saying "Some of MSI Afterburner components are expired, missing or corrupted" i just uninstalled and reinstalled and still keep getting the error. not looking good for OCing my grafx card and that really sucks

EDIT: i guess my old beta version was just simply expired so that is why I was getting the error. however, GPU still wont unlock....wth am i missing? mad.gif

just made a whole new .cfg file, pulled out the original .cfg file afterburner made and swapped with mine. it STILL won't unlock the GPU
also think its odd that in the .cfg files it is showing
UnlockVoltageControl= 0
UnlockVoltageMonitoring= 0

but i would think would be 1 since the V is technically unlocked when the program launches.
help
please

Download and install the latest MSI Afterburner 2.2.20 Beta 9 then from the settings just unlock voltage control and unofficial overclocking.

If you want to play with the .cfg file, check this tutorial

frown.gif the point of the thread is trying to figure out why the GPU will no longer open/OC past 875mhz. The Voltage stuff works fine, i was just pointing out something I thought was odd with the config file.
I already tired the new afterburner too, nothing is working

EDIT: i also already found that guru article, but ty, I definitely scoured the net before posting on here.

Do what now?

Looks like I found the issue and it was due to a config file that was being created after editing the file in my Afterburner folder. It was like every time I edited the .cfg file it was saving my changes, but also creating a notepad version in that same folder. i just deleted the note pad one and it was good to go (also downloaded the newest Afterburner). I am sure its my own dang fault, but idc because OC goodness may continue.
thanks all for the help
