Dell Inspiron 1501 XP, 60G laptop - $76

Toshiba Laptop computer - $160 (SF)

F/S Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop Purple (Price lowerd) - $150 (ingleside / SFSU / CCSF)
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/ele/2717972549.html

HP PAVILION ZX5000 LAPTOP: 3Ghz Pentium 4, 15.4" LCD - $150 (haight ashbury)
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/sys/2707925957.html

that's all i could find for now.

i'm kind of leaning towards the two Dells or the Vaio i only need them to run basic stuff. maybe i'll try FL Studio and Sony Vegas, but only the simple editting stuff (when i get an idea i don't want to forget). the rendering i always do on my desktop. so any suggestions?

Good lord man, do you have any idea how hot a P4 runs in a laptop? Ugh, I still have my P4 Toshiba and it is so awful. I even pulled the heat sink off and replaced the old thermal compound with Arctic Silver. Didn't do much to help. Slow as balls, too. Single core **** sucks man, even for a hundred bucks. Try to find an old Duo or something.

You should check out any local swap meets if you have one in your area. I've found some pretty amazing deals on working, used laptops for under 150 in my area. Last one I saw was like a Core2 Duo, 2 gigs of RAM, and a 15.6" display without a power charger for 150. I thought that was a steal and you never know what other kinda wonders you might stumble upon.

Edit: I also wanna say go with the Toshiba simply because I've had my outdated laptop for like 7-8 years and it hasn't had any issues in all that time. It just so happens to be a Toshiba, too. Oh, it's pretty much on 24/7 non stop throughout the year too since I use it as a media player.

only problem with that is i don't know anyone at local shops. it would kinda be weird to randomly ask if they had a laptop for sale.
