OC PhenomII B55 to 4.12 but desktop seems less snappier than lower OC.. any advice?

Hi Guys

I have been playing around with my OC'ing of late and thought I would try to get over 4ghz.

I have it @ 4.12 337

I pumped the ram to match the next protocol, from 533mhz and upped the timings. I had thought about that ages ago and this is the first time it worked. but the desktop isn't as 'snappy' as it was, when I had the NB up higher, the desktop did things like 'bam!' done! but that was on a lower cpu OC/no OC.

games are good, the PC it's self seems good (temps). an odd time I get a strange noise from the chassis fan but all seems okay. Sandra gave me (be aware I don't know SiSandra scores at all) I think, a poor score. I was beat out by an Intel Q6600.

sooo, any advice?

peace

Dava

BSOD

after 12 hours. above.

but Ubuntu was longer.. but then I got a screen freeze.

loaded in an old OC @ 4.01 so far so good.

my rig is pretty fast can play all my games except GTA4 on all top settings (Bioshock2 DCU New Vegas) and resolutions (I'm really digging 1824x1036_30i very defined) but the SiSandra score/comparison is bringing me down.

any advice?

desktop is still laggy, if I turn the whole OC off I can push up the NB 29xxMhz and the desktop gets 'snappy' again.

what idiot thing am i doing wrong?

An unstable overclock can cause your system to run worse. I see you have a X4 B55,is your Phenom II a unlocked triple core? (sorry I don't remember what the B55 is)
Perhaps setting the OC to 3.8 or 4.0,and keep the NB at 2600Mhz would make your rig stable. Testing with Prime 95 and Linx helps you find the right OC for stability.

If you haven't properly cooled your VRMs, you may be experiencing VRM overload/overheat-induced protective CPU throttling that is lowering your performance at full load when pushing even higher clocks and voltages.  4+1 phase VRMs need to be properly cooled when overclocking high TDP processors if wanting to avoid performance loss and reliability issues.  Get those VRM heatsinks, mah boy!

Having a faster Northbridge clock is always better.  Also keep the HT link at 2000Mhz +/- 200Mhz; any higher doesn't really bring any performance benefit and can do more to hurt stability & performance than improve performance.

thanks for the info, I didn't even know what a VRM was lol

but there's no space in the case...

I used to have a board that had mosfet cooling, but on this board theres none. I've of put the resorator on the NB, but the HS doesn't fit as the board is mATX.

that was a lot of little words wasn't it ? lol wink.gif

I have a big old Dell chasis fan and the H-a-UGE Luna fan (both are a good bit noisy) so my house is cold lol

I have dialed back to a lower OC just now but I think I'll have another go, at dialing it up and putting the HT down smile.gif

thanks for the reply.

Check this link for VRM's http://www.overclock.net/a/about-vrms-mosfets-motherboard-safety-with-high-tdp-processors (made by xd_1771) to learn something about VRM's and i think 4GHz is enough, it's not worth to hurt your Motherboard and CPU for 100MHz.

Hi yuksel911

that is too long to read and I am pretty tired, but I totally thank you guys for the support biggrin.gif

I have this running just now :334

I just hope the big case fan cools everything down.

I did my first cable tidy last night, it went okay I think, the Luna doesn't have proper tidy holes but I did my best.

so happy the side is on the case now lol. wink.gif
