gigabyte x58a-ud3r NB heatsink really hot

hi guys. I've pretty much owned amd pc's for years now and have only used this intel rig for more than a month now so I don't really know much about intel boards.

I just opened AIDA64 and checked the nortbridge temps. it was at 71 degrees. seems like it's still normal. I could be wrong though.

but when I actually touch the NB heatsink I can't even leave my finger for half a second. it's blisteringly hot.

my i7 950 is overclocked to 4.1ghz. HT ON. with 1.36v vcore

is this normal? I'm suspecting the "auto" settings on the different voltages on my motherboard. maybe it's giving too much voltage on those auto settings that's why it's heating up bad.

TIA OCN

That sounds pretty bad. I have an NF200 chipset on my board, and it's using a passively cooled heatsink. I can't say it gets anywhere near as hot as what you're describing with your PC though. How's the airflow in your case? I try to make sure everything in my case has airflow irregardless of where it's positioned or if it's passively cooled. Every little bit helps.

airflow is pretty good. I have a lot of fans and my sidepanel is permanently opened,

i also had a gigabyte board on my amd system. it was warm but it was never like this. and I abused my amd system more than this
