just ordered parts for a grand total of $17

and that includes 2 times the parts required in case i mess up.

281

and $5.12 for the resistors

423

ok so just got the parts in the mail and now i see why yall were wishing me luck lol:
IMAG0197.jpg

man are these tiny. ill be stopping by my neighborhood electronics store to get a smaller iron tip and some solder wick for the desoldering. ill be starting it tomorrow. wish me more luck lol

and its finished:
IMAG0198.jpg

i will say it was more difficult than i expected yet was way easier than you would think.

the reason i said it was more difficult than i planned is because on the resistor leads:
g15mod27.jpg

pay attention to the blue writing. the leads on that side of the resistor are attached by very thin traces and it does not stick to the board well. during desoldering i messed up 2 leads before i realized they were that fragile(learning curve lol) even though it isnt too noticeable. i also was trying to use too large of a tip. i had to go buy one after i noticed the second trace was destroyed.

this project is really easy except for the desoldering. overall i think it turned out nice. thanks for looking!

SMD soldering is tough. Why not just buy a first gen G15?

i was thinking about seeing if i could get a premade board of these as well since it is only attached by wire and they look similar anyways lol. but no ill have some fun.

why would i buy one when i already have one and can have fun trying to do something myself to where it is customized? i wont be changing them all to blue anyways. some will be white some blue and ill keep certain ones red

Yikes, I tore my old g15 apart when I spilled on it, it looked like a ***** and a half to deal with. Good work thumb.gif

did you do the media buttons white, or is that just how it worked out?

Yes I did those and the macro keys white. You can't see the macro because I have the keyboard plugged into my laptop and no drivers so the don't light up
