Asus AI Suite?

Thread Starter
Has anyone ever overclocked your system using the Asus Ai Suite?

Everytime I make an atempt at changing anything my system does not seem to like it.

Last time I got an error message- (recovered from a serious error.)

I'm not having very good luck at this "OC-ing thing".

Does anybody have any good advice?

My advice is to stop using the Ai software (uninstall it) and try your hand at overclocking with the BIOS.

The Ai software is not very stable and not capabale of as good overclocks as careful manipulation of the BIOS can yield. There are some good guides here for BIOS overclocking, check them out, ask questions about anything you don't feel comfortable with, and you'll be on your way to good, stable OCs in no time.

It's best to stay away from software overclocking. I'd stick to the old-fashioned BIOS.

I've never had any great success with "AI" overclocking. I personally think it's a bunch of HOOEY.

Ya, I have used both Asus's AI utility and Abit's u-Guru utility, and had limited success with both. Neither were very stable and I have never heard of any great OC success stories using these softwares.

Just think of it this way, its pretty darn near impossible to manually change the timing of your car while its running. The same is true with your computer.

I have been reading different posts and recomendations on making changes in the bios, but it seems like every time I make a change my PC will not re-start without shutting the master switch off and resetting the bios to default settings.
I would really like to be able to OC my new rig, any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

I posted some information that would really help you but apparently you're ignoring it? Here's the thread/link again: http://www.overclock.net/1252945-post6.html

On a side note, I used to have the same RAM that you have or is it? except I couldn't get it to no more than 450mhz while most people with DDR2 800 were hitting over/at 1000mhz.

The 800EPPs were doing 450mhz on a 1:1 at 4-4-4-10 2.25v, but nothing else would make them go above that. Just fallow those links I posted to see if you can have a sucessful overclock with your system.

Otherwise if you want to start with a mild overclock, do everything I say from within the BIOS, not AI's:
Set:
CPU's FSB to 300mhz
RAM @ DDR2 900
everything else set to auto.
Except for RAM voltage which you should start with a 2.25v.
Leave everything else set to auto.

Next page:
set timings to 4-4-4-10-6-30-10-10-10.
Everything else leave as is.

Now, your system should boot with a 300mhz fsb, in your case it should be 3.0ghz, since that the E6700 has a 10 multi. Just a hair faster than the X6800.

BTW, watch out for those temps, with a stock cooler you might not get that far, so don't try anything crazy. Get a TT Big Typhoon, that should help.
