So I've been running the stock cooler for a bit lately because I didn't feel the need to pay for electricity w/ my chiller.
*Insert lame excuse as to why you are using stock cooler*

and err... I was running Prime95... I thought I closed it but I just minimized it (For the 52nd time in my life).

And I open this to see what damage I've done:

And now I present to you my face when I saw the max temp:

I thought I'd share my experience.

Lol.

My processor used to hit 70 on stock - cooling and clock. But then again, that was folding -bigadv. In the middle of summer. In the southwest U.S.

Anyways -
I'd say that you're fine

Like it says, you're only about halfway to TJ maxx.

Nah It's mildly overclocked at 4.4ghz

I know I shouldn't be running the crap stock cooler when overclocking but It only gets in the 70's while gaming and I never intended to leave Prime95 on.

Surprised my processor didn't melt through my motherboard like thermite. /sarcasm

It's weird although I do feel your pain. I left Prime95 on as well in the past, thinking I closed it. Came back, mosfets / power phases exploded.

Thats why I have my motherboard shut down if I go over 80-85C. I forget what I have it set to.

I was getting 90C+ with my i7-2600K at stock settings with stock cooler running prime95 for 30seconds and I tested it once only and bought an aftermarket cooler immediately. Works great now.
