[Build Log] Narada - 800D

Hey guys, so i've been watercooling for a couple months now. But now that my sig rig is aging, it's time to start again. This time it's with the Corsair 800D and full watercooling. Plenty of 800D's have been shown off on this website and i'd like to think im not another sheep but hey, i like the look of the case, and the functionality it has, especially with a wc setup.
anyway, i ordered the case on monday from a cyber monday deal for 235 with free shipping. when i get paid on the 10th it'll be the beginning of the build as i will buy the main components for the wc setup.

A lot of 800D's with similar mods, but they all look different. Looking forward to see how your 800D turns out. Good luck on your build, and have fun.thumb.gif

alright so i've been doing some thinking. in the beginning i really wanted to do a dual loop setup. but now that i think about it, i could do a single loop with the two rads that are focused for certain things.

i could have it
res>pump>240>cpu>mb>360>gpu>gpu>res

but my dual loop was going to be based on the rads cooling specific things if you will.
240=cpu/mb
360=graphics
of course then i'd have dual reservoirs and dual pumps.

im going for minimum decibels, but i also would like great cooling.
the pump i selected to use; the mcp655, is a little loud but has great amounts of flow.

i have one mcp350 in my current setup and i cant even hear it, though it only has one third of the flow as the 655.
what do you guys think? personally, i feel like if i go dual loop, i'd go with two 350's. if i go single loop, i'd go with one 655.

thoughts? thanks!

As many times I've seen question on loop order in this forum, people will say It doesn't matter what order, just as long as res is before the pump. The temp will equalize, and temp will end up being the same throughout the loop. It's better to go serial anyway... so if one pump goes out... you still have a complete loop. I went with serial on my build with 2 pumps and 2 sided bay res. It's sort of dual loops, but one loop goes to the opposite res, so it's like an alternating serial loop. I did this for pump redundancy so if one pump fails... my loop still can function with remaining pump. My loop order is... res1>pump1>360>cpu>mb>res2>pump2>240>gpu>gpu>res1.

thanks for the help dude. i've thought about it and i think you're right about how i should go with the loop setup. it makes more sense especially if a pump were to give out frown.gif

i've compiled a new list of things to get on the 10th,
here they are:

lemme know what you guys think

12/6/11 - UPDATE

alright so i got the case last friday. and this thing is huge! i've messed with it in person at my local Fry's,i guess it's because its a clear comparison to my current case. but today was the only day i could actually work on it, i've been so busy with work.

first thing i did was completely strip it down:
IMG_0536.jpg

now my main focus at the moment is to modify the case so i can accommodate a 140mm fan in the front for intake, therefore eliminating the hotswap hdd bay, and replacing the front panel bay door with a grill for the fan. the first thing i noticed was that the hotswap bay is held in only by rubber holders that are attached to the 5.25" bay above it and the panel below it. i realized that for the bottom, the rubber was also held in with metal pins...
IMG_0539.jpg
(the rubber around the pins looks screwy because i took a razor to the rubber around the pins before actually grinding the pins down)

all the top required was to pry the topside metal up so i could take out the rubber holding it in place..
IMG_0540.jpg

after that, i grinded down the metal pins and was able to slip the bay out of the case, leaving me with the rubber mat that separated the lower flat panel and the hotswap bay..
IMG_0544.jpg

taking the rubber mat off, you can see the metal pins that held the bay in place. well, that just wont do.
IMG_0542.jpg

these are my money-makers..
IMG_0547.jpg

there we go:)
IMG_0548.jpg

now the next thing to do was to remove the lower hdd cage so i could place my future 240 rad in it's stead. simple procedure, find the 4 rivets holding it in, 2 in the front, 2 on top of the lower panel, drill em out, and then slide the cage out..
IMG_0550.jpg

and just like that, im that much closer to finishing up the modification to the case. my goal is to keep this thing as OEM as possible. no external rads, no external anything, the only exception being the 140mm fan grill in the front.

i found some nice pvc that i can use to hold the weight up for the lower panel, but that'll be for another day. i got work later today and staying at the g/f's after.
thanks for looking!

Looking good so far, but I really dont like that you are using pre-sleeved extensions.

You also could-have gone with dual Liang DDC with a XSPC top to put them in serial and save some $ with that second rad. Would have also saved some $ by not needing the mod kits at all. All those swiftechs are, are rebranded Laing (old model Laings, not the newer 1T Plus)

As well, coud have gone with a different retailer to get stuff cheaper, but quicker too. I love FrozenCPU but they gouge you so bad on some things.

oh man im glad you brought up the sleeving. i scrapped the pre-sleeved idea and decided to go with ftwpc's sleeving. red, black, white. i'll look into those 1T plus's though. thanks for the heads up. but you really think that if i run the pumps in serial, i could eliminate the 240 rad? that's just hard to believe because i plan on having vga, cpu, mobo, and ram blocks. mobo and ram blocks are the more restrictive as well. and yeah i am now considering different retailers as i have found the same things for cheaper elsewhere other than frozencpu.
