Kidding aside, at least this gives AMD some justification for the low IPC. If they indeed had 2 billion transistors in there, half of them must be lazy unionized transistors!

qft ^. It would make a good OC'in quad core if only 1 core from each module was used. But theres no way to turn off individual cores is there frown.gif

Depending on the board you can turn off 1 core per module. On mine you can't select which core you turn off but you have an option to only use 1 core per module.

All that die space and still no iGPU... Another aspect commonly overlooked when comparing. Can't wait for IVY-B.

Yeah because someone who buys a 2500k or 2600K needs a iGPU. rolleyes.gif All that die space wasted by a iGPU when it could have been a 6 core.

Yeah and the SB iGPU is so bad it may as well not exist at all except for quicksync. The Ivy Bridge one looks alot more promising although it'll probably be Maxwell where it actually becomes noteworthy.

I use the iGPU all the time. It's amazing for encoding videos. It'll serve perfectly fine for when I move it into a HTPC once IVY-B comes out. Power efficient and cool.
IVY-B iGPU will shave off another 10W down to only 35W for a mobile quad core and be able to support 4K res. I'll hardly ever need to switch to the discreet GPU on my next laptop.

I think this is actually good news if its true because it means AMD's plan to add more cores while sharing resources has indeed allowed them to add more cores without taking up too much more die space. When I saw that the 8 core Sandy Bridge E was using 2.2B transistors and AMD's 8 core Bulldozer used 2B transistors yet it is way slower and is supposed to share resources, I was like wow AMD did you get anything right. At least that is fixed somewhat.

That is all the iGPU is really useful for.
TDP and resolution support is one thing, and actual graphics acceleration performance is another.

You can't play BF3 maxed out with the iGPU but you sure can watch 1080P videos or play WoW with them. Ivy-Bridge's iGPU will be more powerful than Llano's which you don't seem to be making any jokes about. You get the best CPU performance along with a free iGPU. What's to complain about?
All that wasted overly huge die size and still no iGPU for Zambezi.

You say that as if it's insignificant. Quick Sync is one of SB's best features.

You can't compare compare IB to Llano, after Llano comes Trinity APU. Even if it has better graphics than,Llano, that isn't saying much it being mainstream processor, while Llano is lower end and has been out for awhile, not to mention it has a real GPU.
What "wasted" die space? Everything that should be there,CPU cores, are there,no unneeded crap such as a iGPU in a higher end targeted processor.
