Selling my Asus DirectCU II and bought two MSI Twin FrozR III (GTX 570)

So the price of the MSI Twin FrozR III cards dropped from £311.60 to £274.99 and I bought myself two to SLI. My Asus DirectCU II card will be re-sold as a result. I use a single monitor at 1920x1080 but with 3D Vision and at the moment I'm nearly running out of VRAM and performance isn't as high as I'd like. I figure I won't wait around for the good, non-reference 670s to show up and just bite the bullet on SLI 570s. They'll definitely keep me going until the 700 series or so.

Just a couple of questions:

1. Should I get the latest Beta version of MSI Afterburner or will the latest official version do?
2. Is there anything special I need to do to configure SLI? (never had two cards before)
3. Both cards have 1280 MB VRAM each. I'm assuming having two cards means I essentially have double the VRAM, right?
4. These cards are already overclocked to 770 MHz GPU and 4000 MHz memory apparently. Are the highest voltages allowed in MSI Afterburner ok to set?
5. What kind of overclock should I expect (my current card runs at 900 MHz GPU and 4000 MHz memory with 1125 mV)?

Thank you! smile.gif

1. The beta versions might not be as stable as official releases, though I've never had problems with beta versions.
2. When you put them in together (with the SLI cable attached) you need to enable best performance (aka SLI) in your Nvidia control panel. Other than that, nope nothing special!
3. Each card is processing the same data thus needs its own frame buffer data for the GPU data, thus you still only have 1.25GB of vram, not 2.5GB
4. The highest voltages are fine to set as they place the limiter at what the highest recommended is, though you shouldn't raise the voltage unless you need to as it will increase the heat output.
5. 570's tend to o/c fairly well, I think in the 850 - 900 range isn't unreasonable.

ouch, I'm really hoping the extra vram isn't the main reasoning behind adding another card to your setup. If so, my condolences. VRAM is as high as your lowest amount on any one card.

Thanks for the replies so far! smile.gif
No worries about the VRAM. Skyrim gets near 1280 MB with the texture mods and BF3 gets to about 1000 MB. It's a bit pathetic of NVIDIA to not have 1.5 GB to 2.0 GB as standard but nevermind, it should be fine. I'm never intending on going higher than 1920x1080 or more than one monitor anyway.
