Thread Starter
I want to try and overclock my processor, this will be the first time overclocking anything.

My current computer build is:
Motherboard: Asus M4A78LT-M-LE
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 945e @ 3000Mz
Memory: 8192MB 1600MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5770
Sound: Asus Xonar PCI 7.1 audio card
Power supply: 450w not sure what make
OS: Windows 7

CPUZ - http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2128574

I am using the stock fan but I am willing to buy a better fan if needed.

Please Help smile.gif

Be glad to help (since i have practically have the same set up as you biggrin.gif). What are your current temps and voltage?

EDIT: Juts saw the volts, they look pretty good. What temps are you running at currently?

First off, what speeds are you aiming at? You won't be able to get very far on stock cooling. Also, you can't push the chip too much on that mobo 'coz of the 3+1 phase design. Heavy OC's would overload the MOSFETS and protective CPU throttling may kick in (which leads to performance loss). Anything upto 3.5-3-6 Ghz is fine though thumb.gif

I'll give you the simple and straight method since you're new to all this thumb.gif

Go into the BIOS, set the multi to 15x and raise the FSB to 235. Next, manually set the RAM to 667 Mhz and increase RAM voltage to 1.65v. Lower the HT link down to as close to stock as possible. Lastly, set the CPU vcore to 1.4v (never keep it on auto since the BIOS pushes more volts than required) and presto biggrin.gif. After booting into windows check your load temps by stressing the chip. The threshold is 62c. Try staying within 55 to be on the safe side (although i doubt it with the stock cooler),

Ok, Thank you smile.gif I shall give it go in a minute. What is the FSB shown as in the BIOS (sorry I'm new to this).

Also when you say lower the HT link down to as close to the stock how will I know?

It's called CPU clock if i'm not mistaken. As you increase the CPU clock, the HT link automatically increases as well. Keep it as close to 2000 Mhz as possible by manually adjusting it(the lower the HT link while overclocking, the better)

Don't worry about being new to the game, we all were at some point of time thumb.gif

Thank you smile.gif I just tried it and all seems fine so far temperature between 50 - 54.

When I boot up with computer it comes up with a message saying CPU OVER VOLTAGE or something like that. Not sure if that is a bad thing or not?

Too weak motherboard. You can run your CPU only at stock speeds. If you are going to overclock you'll hurt your Motherboard and CPU... This motherboard isn't designed for->
