Helicopters are not OP.
First of all, if you are getting killed by a helicopter but refuse to change class and do something about it, you have lost all right to complain. If you are getting killed by a helicopter continually, quit thinking it's someone else's job to take care of it. Make it your job, and do it.
I hate that mentality. I switch classes all the time, and often multiple times in the middle of a round.
1) If a squad mate is in a tank without a gunner, I go engineer with a repair tool
2) If the team is getting mortared to death, I switch to support and counter mortar
3) If the squad is bunched together near a choke point, I go support to add suppressing fire or assault to revive them (depending on which is needed)
4) If an air vehicle is controlling the skies, I switch to engineer with anti air missiles (along with telling the AA gunner to get off his ass and stop trying to snipe infantry from base)
On top of all that, a good AA gunner should be able to handle any aircraft (assuming they can't gang up on it, which takes somewhat competent jet pilot teammates to occupy the jets). All it takes is a little game of cat and mouse with the attack chopper. If the AA gunner spots the attack chopper first, it's game over. I don't care how good they are. Kill them, then move to another spot where you are somewhat hidden but can watch your old spot. You can bet the attack chopper will try and sneak up on the old position. Then blast them again when the "clever" attack chopper pilot is trying to find out where you went. One of two things happen after that. The heli pilot is full of himself and keeps coming after you (which I love since the AA just keeping owning them), or they end up just flying low near their base for the rest of the game out of fear. Either way they become ineffective vs. the rest of the team.
On top of that, a tank with CITV can take out everything in the sky, or someone laying a SOFLAM and one guy with a Javelin.
It doesn't take much to make helicopters a complete non issue. Sadly, way too many people think "hey, this is how I play and that is someone else's job!" If you feel that way, stop whining about it because you are doing nothing about it. Especially since it doesn't even take a huge concerted effort like it did in BFBC2. Compared to that, the helicopters in BF3 are nothing more than annoying little gnats.
