Amd Phenom ii x4 970 black edition overclocking help (Noob) - Page 2

Welcome to OCN smile.gif
You should fill in your system specs in your profile so we can better help you...also what are you using for cooling? If it's the stock heatsink you'll be very limited as to how far you can push it...
I always recomend a couple reads just to get an idea of what the big picture to overclocking your system involves, there are lots of others here for general info also

AMD overclocks involve more than just cpu ghz to get best performance bang for ghz...

By overclocking your whole system you could actually get better performance with lower cpu clock speeds than you can with cpu alone. What motherboard are you using?...need to make sure it's capable of pushing any more without cooking it smile.gif

I think my Motherboard is ASUS M4A77T/USB3 -- AMD 770 Chipset. And I also have liquid cooling in my computer.

you have full blown water or a closed loop?...which one?....how are your temps?
That mb doesn't have any heat sinks on the vrm's and is only a 4+1 (someone correct me here if I'm wrong ) so you will have to be careful not to push too hard or it'll cook. You could add some heatsinks...I made my own out of an old Pentium heat sink for a similar board.

I'm not sure the diff between closed loop or full blown? I'm going 4ghz right now and I'm stress testing it with Prime95 and Speed say the highest my core has reached was 63C and my CPU's hovering around 53-59C

Your maxed out... what you want to shoot for 55c and your pushing it the max already....what is the actual model of your cpu cooler....full blown is basically custom built...although they have kits...closed loop is the already to just bolt in style
The max temp for that chip is 62c

so I guess what I'm saying is you need to back it down some until you address cooling...both for vrm's on motherboard and cpu
sounds like you've got a good overclocking chip there, you don't want to damage it or cook your mb

Gotcha I'll back it down and look at some more cooling when I upgrade my video card at the end of the month.

wise move my friend...look into some heat sinks for those vrm's also...either home made or you can purchase already made ones...attach with 2-sided heat tape or if your a permanent kinda guy use tim adhesive smile.gif
Not sure what your cpu cooler is but, you may look around for what others have done with it to get better temps...just type it in the search window and enjoy the reads smile.gif

In Bios For for the settings cool n quiet (asus mobos) and disable
disable c1e support

I would also enable load line calibration

Could be more specific if you add some info about your system.
