When I said quad core awareness i mean it as in rough estimate smile.gif

The game kinda uses all my 4 cores atm, usually all equal at ~ 40-60% depends on the location. But still its not it.. I achieved more equal core spreed with this; although it didnt help with high fps much

Well Betsheda said they're working on a dx11 patch to speed things up, imo it's the only logical way to rewrite the whole shadow engine otherwise we won't see any real perf. speedups; plus atm it looks ugly, inefficient outside and has some glitches with lod setting..

I turned HT back to mess with those settings a few days ago. I tried to spread the threads over 0-7; I got the game to hit 4-core usage at one point, without any noticeable performance improvement; I went back to no-HT and stock settings, but I thought it was interesting that I could hit 4 cores.

Also, do you have a source on the dx11 business? I haven't heard about that.

Well. Fingers crossed then! Though it says the game supports DX11 but isn't taking advantage of certain features; isn't the game running in DX9 only right now?

Pretty sure GTA-IV doesn't show any significant perf benefit with any more than 3 cores. BFBC2 I've found can actually use 4 though, and Prototype will actually reach up to 75% total usage on my 8-thread proc, so it appears to support up to 6 threads/cores. My suspicion on this though is that Prototype has huge throngs of mostly mindless NPC's, and that a lot of it's ability to expand to using a lot of cores may have to do with this 'quality' of the game.

Also it likes more then 4gb ram, 6gb is optimal with high textures.

I'm sorry, but your 'quick googling' job is sorely lacking in the requisite 'actual proof' department redface.gif

E.G. I looked at all those links you posted, and not one of them proves that there's a benefit to > 3 cores in GTAIV. Perhaps I was supposed to be looking at a different page(s) in the article than the links? headscratch.gif

Although I will grant that the usage measurements on the quad core showing >90% usage on all four cores (in the Tom's article) *suggests* that 4 cores would perform > 3, all that any of the charts proves definitively is that a quad is better than an equal dualie. I.E. none of them tested 3 cores vs. 4 (nor did they test w/more than 4), so the evidence you've provided is inconclusive biggrin.gif

Back to the subject at hand though ... Dustin, have you had any luck returning to your old performance level using the latest game version (v1.3 or more) and either driver version? If so, how did you do so?

I'm actually seeing worse performance lately (1.3.7 patch) i.e. there's even more areas where I get low FPS/low usage than I did when I first started playing. And this is even after lowering Decals and Shadows both down from Ultra to High ... although I've also tweaked the .ini for higher quality in other ways (like enabling bTreesReceiveShadows, and bTransparencyMultisampling) and I'm running 'Quality' AO in the driver.

I swear there's GOT to be something we can adjust that'll lower CPU load significantly in the towns, w/o decimating the IQ as happens if you turn the shadows off. I just have no idea what it is frown.gif

lol are you serious??

212

3core would score somewhere in between 2 and 4 core (35fps max), how can you say its enough. But fine be it your way 3 core is enough rolleyes.gif

anyway yea agree, its way off topic.
