Computer powers on but won't post

Computer shut down randomly. Now I try to start it and all the fans are running at Max speed and the lights inside are flickering very slightly. Video card fan is also at Max speed. Mobo doesn't give any beeps. Tried individual sticks of RAM and it didn't do anything. Tried removing HDDs and optical drives and it didn't do anything. I hope to God it isn't a psu issue. Recently I tried to play Skyrim a couple weeks ago and could not. The computer would shut down right after I clicked new game. I tried different ram and even a clean install and that didn't fix it. Dont know of this is related or not. Nothing in my PC was overheating when this shutdown though, PC is watercooled but have never been on OC settings because I'm lazy. The computer can sit with the fans, lights, and mobo going until I shut it off.

I don't know what to do.

Sounds like it may be the PSU. Maybe try reseating the CPU?

I'm gonna rule out the CPU. Don't even feel like reseating that. This thing has been fine 10 months.

Well, make sure your PC speaker is connected. But if you get no beeps at all, not a good sign.

Also it did post once right after this happened. It then tried to boot from CD/DVD drive instantly. I restarted and it went back to not posting.

There are only a few items that can be the problem if it doesn't post. Remove everything except the mobo, cpu (and cooler for obvious reasons), psu, and ram. a computer does not need a video card, optical drives, or hdd's to post. Try that to see if it beeps. If it doesn't then try the RAM again one at a time (also in different slots). If no combination of ram works, then reseat the cpu (for testing purposes and no real load, there's no need to replace the TIM yet unless it's just really bad and needs replacing.) Your power supply should have ample headroom for your system so if things actually turn on under no load then I doubt it's the psu. I'm leaning towards a mobo failure if the RAM and cpu aren't the culprits.

Too Mich work for me to research the CPU with all this **** everywhere. I'm just going to say it not the CPU. Its never overheated or anything. Tried all of the above and it still does the same. Do you guys know what the lights flickering a little bit means? Mobo and case lights do this.

Well if you don't have a second psu to test with, then just go to the store and buy one to test with. Preferably a store with a good return policy biggrin.gif just buy a small cheap unit or one you're willing to keep if it turns out to work. If after testing and the rig still doesn't work then just return it. Tell them your rig needs more power so you can't use that psu. It'll be true if you get a low wattage unit to test thumb.gif

Also, it's not good to ask for help and then say it's too much work. It's your computer and if you don't want to put in the effort then it'll just stay the way it is unless you want to pay hundreds of dollars for someone else to 'try' to fix it. You get charged for those situations whether there's success or not.

Also to note that none of the case fans are connected to the mobo, but directly to the PSU. Those are all flickering. Mobo lights are flickering too. This PC will stay on forever until I turn it off. I can't seem to reset it either, only power on or off.
