9800 GT & Battlefield 3

Thread Starter
Hi, just wondering how a 9800 gt, e6750, and 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM would hold up in Battlefield 3? He'll be playing on a 1920 x 1080 monitor.

Yes, but not at that res. and not with very high graphic settings. medium to low and smaller res it should "handle" it alright.

Is the e6750 at stock?

i have to set my graphics to low and I still think they are good and do not give me any problems
post #5 of 10
Campain will work on low with low res 1024X768ish.
Multilayer youll be at a extreme disadvantage. CPU will be hold you back the most, Then the GPU and then the small amount of ram.
I just upgraded a mates PC which was the same as yours except a 8800gt and being overclocked to 3.2ghz

Online on all the lowest he was only getting 25 avg fps, Single player was high 30s.
Upgraded his mobo/cpu/ram with a 1090t,78lmt-s2p-8gb cheapest ddr3. $280 all up for that
Made it more playable online with low 40s avg dropping down into high 20s on all the lowest settings.
Upgraded his gfx card few days latter with a 6850, Gets high 60s avg dropping to 40s on high settings @ 1080p.
Overclocked it 4ghz cpu, 900mhz gpu and now it plays on ultra with low 60s avg dropping to low 40s @ 1080p $170 for GPU.

Started getting stability problems overclocked since he only had a 480W PSU but replacing that with a $77 620W fixed that problem.
So you can build something really budget that can play it on ultra which would work out cheaper in the long run then trying to find a better cpu.

Yeah his CPU is at stock. If he can't play with at least 35 fps at 1920 x 1080 then he probably won't get it. He's not looking to upgrade right now I don't think. So even with everything on low he will get <35 fps?

Minimum Requirements
OS: Windows Vista Service Pack 2 32-bit
Processor: 2GHz dual-core (Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or Athlon X2 2.7GHz)
Memory: 2GB RAM
Hard drive: 20GB
Graphics card AMD: DirectX 10.1 compatible with 512MB RAM (ATI Radeon HD 3000, 4000, 5000 or 6000 series, with ATI Radeon HD 3870 or higher performance)
Graphics card Nvidia: DirectX 10.0 compatible with 512MB RAM (Nvidia GeForce 8, 9, 200, 300, 400 or 500 series with Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT or higher performance)
Sound card: DirectX compatible
Keyboard and mouse
DVD-ROM drive

My guess is that single player will run fine at lowest settings but multiplayer will destroy your cpu.

Can't he just turn down the resolution a bit, or does he HAVE to play at 1080p? My 4850 (on-par, little slower then a 9800GT) ran BF3 just fine with a Phenom II, but how it will run with a Dual is out of my hands... probably won't go over too well. The card will handle it fine, he has enough RAM, but the weak link is definitely the E6750.

Might have to stay out of large 64-player servers, but who knows, it may run it fine for him smile.gif Too bad they didn't release a Demo mad.gif

Try your copy on his PC.
Just log into origin with your account settings and install it, Or use the patched exe so you dont need origin to play single player and let him play like that before he decides to get it him self or not.
Any online play uses twice the amount of CPU compared to single player so single player is the only thing that will be playable

He will defiantly need to upgrade to go online.

I played with my build , before the 6950 and it ran ok on lowest settings , 1650x1050 rez , xfx 9800gtx+ , clocked far as I could while still being stable.
