[Daily Tech] GM Promises to buy back Volts - Page 3

Some of you may want to brush up on your reading skills. The Volt caught fire WEEKS after the crash test not during.

"The Volt sat there for three weeks before catching fire and burning hot enough to damage other vehicles nearby. ."

Kia? Seriously?

I don't recommend Kia to anybody, ever.

Sure Consumer Reports might "recommend" them but CR is a good source of toilet paper not car reviews.

The Mustang v6 does not have direct injection.

My LNF 2.0 turbo has direct injection. It's not worth the hassle for the gains you get. What cars don't need is two expensive fuel pumps instead of one.

Anyone who's up to date with the automotive scene should know this is simply a matter of quality control and skimping/sourcing out on quality parts after the fact.

Hate to be the one to tell you this but every car maker does the same thing, I see it day in day out.

But this had nothing to do with skimping etc.

The battery on the Volt has to be drained after a crash.

What actually happened here is the battery coolant leaked. When wet, it cannot catch fire. It dried and crystalized over the 3 weeks it sat on the battery and poof.

http://bottomline.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/11/11/8761004-federal-testers-may-have-caused-chevy-volt-fire-gm-says

Now that the nhtsa knows how to handle it, it won't happen again.

Honda Clarity>all other EVs.  Hydrogen, bro.  Now if we can just figure out an energy efficient way of rendering hydrogen(it's abundant, but always stuck to something else).

It's a neo-yuppie car. No torque, no kick-you-in-the-face-when-shifting clutch drop. No awesome engine sound or forced induction sound. That said since my wall power doesn't come from the sun or wind I'm still polluting the environment. And if I'm gonna pollute, it better be with a hoot and 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. biggrin.gif

No but instead we gave them money and yet they still produce flops of 'hybrid' vehicles. I'll buy a Honda hybrid over an American hybrid sorry lol.
