i know people are going to be pissed because there are hundreds of these but i could not find an answer i really liked using the search. i have a 2-way sli GTX 570 rig and i want to run 3 23" asus monitors without disabling sli, or enabling surround. i just want the game to run on 1 screen and the other screens to have gadgets and programs to show loads, temps, network usages and firefox. can this be done or do i have to choose between sli and all 3 monitors.

With SLI enabled and Surround disabled, you can only have 2 monitors active at the same time. If you play the game in fullscreen 3D mode on one monitor (ie SLI focus monitor), then the other monitor may or may not go black, depending on that particular game/application.

However, there is one exception. If you play the game in windowed mode on one monitor, then the other monitor can be used to display gadgets and temperature programs etc. But playing game in windowed mode is not too desirable.

I choose neither of the two options in your poll because I prefer a 3rd one:-
Get a cheap single slot graphics card to act as a 3rd graphics card, being independent of the SLI pair. Then, the GTX570 SLI will drive one monitor and the other card will drive two monitors to display whatever monitoring programs.

But remember your motherboard Asus P8P67 EVO 's black PCIEx16 slot should be set to x4 mode (in the BIOS) to allow maximum performance.

i had a 9800GT installed running at x1 because x4 mode disables my other x1 slots which is my creative sound blaster x-fi titanium fatal1ty, and also my midboard usb 3.0 (i really don`t care about them) but i took it out because i noticed it caused a small fps drop like 5-10 fps, and i put it in my other system to improve over the onboard. rep+ added, im going to run 2 screens on my 570s until i build my new system when the 6xx or maybe 7xx series comes out.
