Is a 6970/570 worth it over a 6950/560 ti for BF3

Thread Starter
So the title pretty much says it all, I'm looking for a graphics card for a new build with a 2500k OC'ed. I'll be playing at 1080p and I know the 6970/570 are faster than the 6950/560 ti, but is it really significant enough to warrant the extra cost? I'm willing to spend the cash if I should, but only if it's going to be a noticeable difference.

Cheers

Yeah 1080p, I meant to mention that in the OP.

So this is how the pricing is in $NZ, what do you guys think?

Single card:
DCu II 6970 - $585
DCu II 570 - $569

OR 2 cards:
PowerColor 6870 CFX - $570

Those are as high as I am willing to go, SLI 560 Ti and CF 6950 are too expensive as is the 580

Save the money, heat, and power of doing SLI. This is probably biased but I recommend you the 570, the DirectCU II and the msi gtx 570 power edition (Which I have) are both great cards.

I usually get 50-75 FPS at 1080p on ultra settings (with some AF turned down a notch). 40 FPS and up is considered playable by most people. It's quiet and very chilly as it doesn't go past 53 C on full load.

Again, this might be biased because I own the card but I'm sharing my experiences with you.

The 2gb of Vram is very worth it for BF3. I'd get the 6950.

no point playing the game over medium really (low is ideal imo). cant ******* see anything because of stupid lights and crap motion blur etc on higher settings. hd6950 1gb OCed to 950/1400 doesnt drop below 60 fps on high @1680x1050. ultra doesnt drop below 50fps with msaa off but the game is unplayable because of some weird stutter crap that happens occasionaly (maybe its just my card/drivers).

if i could go back in time i would have picked up the quietest 6870 and OCed and played on low at a nice 90+fps.

I hate to be the one that says this, but 7000 series is coming out real soon.

I would advise waiting a few weeks (tops I believe) and prices will drop across the board for both AMD and Nvidia

From what it seems, the 7970 is flirting with the 6990 because of its 28nm dye
