Upgrade Advice

Hi All,
I built my sig rig on end Oct. I don't plan to OC or use SLI or CF. Will upgrading to a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 increase performance in any way? I have spent 125USD on the Intel and the gigabyte costs 230USD.

Thanks in advance.

Are you upgrading just to upgrade? What is your reason for swapping out the motherboard with a new one?

Sort of just to upgrade. Majority said not to use a basic motherboard with a i7. I just need to know why and if there are good reasons i will upgrade.

By default, most experienced OCN users assume one has the intention of overclocking when asking about upgrades. Did you buy your i7 and motherboard separately or did they come as a bundle? I really don't see the need to upgrade (from a basic motherboard) unless you're planning on overclocking. I'm sure you'd see better performance when upgrading to that board but it would be kind of a waste of money if you don't plan to overclock or add another GPU.

Thanks. Anyway the CPU i have is the non k version. It cannot be overclocked. So its not worth the extra 100 dollars... I will just leave it as it is.

From the looks of it, you have a pretty good setup. You should think about upgrading your GPU to better compliment your i7 though. If you don't game very much, I wouldn't even worry about it.
