User error tongue.gif gut your boot drive re install win7 and drivers, short cuts will waste more of your time, I ALWAYS re install when swapping out a major component and have never ever had a problem.

I guess I should update my original post with what has been done over the past 5 pages. I have clean installed twice now to no avail. I just plugged my 5770 in again and it works after update no problem.

But what are the odds I get two bad cards in a row?

If my 5770 runs fine, can I rule out the psu being faulty? Its so frustrating not having another desktop around to try the card out in.
Two cards in a row probably are not both faulty.

The 5770 doesn't require as much juice as the 6950. That psu should power the 6950 no problem but it could be going bad or have a bad connection somewhere.

To me, you're only options are to either start all over(wipe and reinstall, I know you've tried that), find another rig to test the card in, find another power supply to test in your rig, or return the card and give up.

Yeah I just put it into another rig and it works fine.

Now I need another psu to test if thats the problem. Can I rule out motherboard and ram, on account of my 5770 working fine?

Theres something I did not think about at all; this person had the exact same problem, and he found that his razor mouse driver was causing the problem--->as in he could not have the mouse driver and amd driver working together.

Now I dont have a razor mouse, but I do use a wireless logitch keyboard and mouse. I don't install any drivers from them but they do auto install I guess. I found a usb mouse that I can use and will try and clean install one more time without them.

Ok not a peripheral problem.

I have not gotten my hands on another psu, but I find it hard to believe it is the problem as currently I am running on ohenom 2 550, whereas I have run on x4 B50 overclocked with my 5770 overclocked no problems...

I've read around and also came across someone who had the exact issues I have (albeit with the 5750) on a 790x motherboard (like mine), http://forums.majorgeeks.com/archive/index.php/t-222853.html

And changing the motherboard fixed his problem....

Does anyone else run a 6950 on 790x mb? I have clean installed and updated chipset etc and it doesnt make a difference. I have reset cmos. I dont know what else I can try here while I am waiting on a psu...

I also have a bootlog of all drivers loading before the BSOD

I havent bothered updating windows or anything else after my last clean install because it doesnt seem to be the problem

Can it be a problem with my cpu? ( I really dont know much...) I unlocked it to quad core, maybe it wrote errors somewhere??? ( I tested and ran stable but still)

Try updating the motherboard BIOS to the latest.

Beat around the bush is not going to solve anything.

Given that your load failures are on non-video AMD drivers, I would guess that there's an issue with the chipset driver installation. Since AMD chipset drivers are installed using Catalyst installer, make sure you're not uninstalling them when you uninstall your graphics drivers.

it could be a PSU problem as the newer card requires more power to run. a 550 should be ebough but it depends on the 550. i have seen supposed 80% 550w PSUs actually test around 300-350w so yes it could be your PSU. im not sure if you have listed it before, but what is your PSU brand and model number?
