Stores in skyrim that sell good weapons or armor?

Thread Starter
Ive saved up over 30,000 gold already and I haven't found a store that sells good weapons/armor.
Like the one's sold at Oblivion imperial city market place.

to my understanding you will almost always find better weapons on quests than u will in stores. What lvl are you?

Its better to save your money and spend it on trainers than weapons.

In Skyrim, the best weapons are typically found or most especially, made (blacksmithing + enchanting). I rarely see any weapon worth buying that doesn't require upgrading.

Best weapons and armour are obtained through smithing and enchanting. You can find some decent weapons through daedric quests but you'd still get better equipment by making your own.

Power levelling Smithing and Enchanting
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Note. The game becomes rather easy when you power level a lot. You've been warned.

Obtain around 400 iron ingots/ores or a mixture and smelt in to iron ingots.

Obtain the same number of leather strips or buy leather/tan hides to give leather strips.

Smith as many daggers as you can.

Keep the daggers somewhere safe until you have an absorb health enchantment.

Get and fill lots of soul gems, whether you buy them or go out and kill beasts. Even petty gems with petty souls will work for this. Dewmer ruins are a good place to find soul gems and an easy soul trap method is to use a weapon enchanted with it (soul trap spell if you're a mage/archer)

Now fetch your daggers and get to an Arcane enchanter. Enchant iron daggers with absorb health using the lowest souls you have.

The initial investment is substantial, if you buy everything I think it's north of 10,000 septims. Overall though you should come away with a profit as well.

The biggest pain in the butt is moving the daggers around. I found the easiest place to do this was Whiterun; if you own Breezehome, use the Warmaidens to stock up on the initial part and then smith them outside. Store the daggers in Breezehome and go get your enchanting items ready. Once prepared, grab everything and head to the Jarls Courtwizard in Dragonsreach, who has an Arcane Enchanter. Happy enchanting.

problem with enchanted weapons are they run out of charge quickly, and I cant be bothered to go find lesser soulgem just to charge them.

Ill go spend money on trainers then, if there are no good shops.

You don't need to find them. However, I cant tell you more without really spoiling anything. Also, if it helps, the best weapons I have found are on quests. Occasionally I use one handed weapons. I never pick up two handed weapons unless I want to learn an enchantment. I am a mage build so I might be particularly useless to you. It does seem that enchanting and smithing go together for weaponry, although I have a different use for my enchanting for spell cost, once I rank it up enough to enchant something powerful. Although, I could probably rank up smithing without the perks and at least give my weapons a little extra power.

On a side note.. what shops have the most gold? I can't count how many enchanted rings / necklaces I have to sell but I'm getting tired of selling one to each shop.. I could install the mod to allow all shops have $xxx but I'd prefer to keep it vanilla. I usually end up buying all of their soul gems in order to sell more but I've got a chest full of soul gems not being used as well.

every shop in the game will have between 750 and 800 gold without any speech skills. The Thieves guild fences are actually your best bet as they have 1k at base

Anything I found had a weak enchantment so I just got it to disenchant and make my own. As everyone else said, most the good stuff you need to make yourself or find in a quest. I just spammed iron daggers till I FINALLY got my smithing to 60. Black smithing to me was a weak point in the game since it was taking FOREVER to get to 60 and i was smiting anything I could get my hands on. good to go now and i am loving my new gear i made
