If it fits the mounting holes, makes a good contact, and you're sure it cools enough... then why not.
And about the noise... you can try to get an empty wc paper roll, put it against your ear and move it around the case to isolate the noise. It's most probably coming from either gpu or the psu.

Ok smile.gif
I red on the Internet that core 2 duo hsf has less amount of copper than core 2 quad so I don't know which one better to use, cause the one I got I think is for the q6600 but its strange that it doesn't have copper. And the noise is higher. So I don't know to risk with Core 2 Duo 6300 hsf or not) In BIOS right now CPU Temp is about 30-34 celcius, even when I restart after few hours usage of PC, but in HWMONITOR in Windows it shows average 50-60 celcius on all cores with no load. Is it ok?

Is that with the q6600 cooler? Those seem to be a bit high for idle temps... although I don't really know much about these particular CPUs.

Yes, I bought a used cpu with cooler, so it's supposed to be for q6600 I guess...
I read some info here - http://www.chotocheeta.com/2008/04/23/difference-between-intel-lga775-heat-sink-and-fans/

On my e6300 I suppose I've had this one - http://www.chotocheeta.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/e6600_q6600.png

But with q6600 came - http://www.chotocheeta.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/p4_lga775.png or http://www.chotocheeta.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/intelstockaluminumhs.gif
I guess I cant check whats inside, so I dont know which one from them.

So I don't know which one to use, cause this http://www.chotocheeta.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/e6600_q6600.png is suited for e6300 and q6600 both, as said there..

If you have some thermal paste around... why not try them both and compare the temps?

You should probably use the one that came with the quad.
The silver bottom could just be plated copper. Each heat-sink is designed for a particular thermal load. Even though the C2D sink has some exposed copper on it it may not have enough mass overall to compensate the Quads higher wattage.

You need to use a TIM (thermal paste) or else the heat-sink won't work correctly. If your really desperate you can use toothpaste for a short time tongue.gif

Well... heat doesn't usually insta-kill cpus. They just turn off. But still... don't blame me if something does go wrong biggrin.gif

Ok biggrin.gif But I checked now with old thermal paste, and you know - yeah it's better, now showing 34-40 Celcius in windows smile.gif I guess it's perfect, and again it's not so noisy as that one came with processor was)
