I will be getting one in the next week or two. I have an old Patriot Pyro on the way I traded with a guy. Im not going to use it as a boot drive. I am going to get a new SSD for boot and windows install and have a 320gb hdd with a 60gb cache.

Im really looking at this plextor m5 pro.

You better return the favor because that is extremely nice of her. Not a lot of chicks would be willing to shell a lot of money just for a SSD when it could be used for something else as a personal gf and bf gift.

You're a lucky guy and since the holidays are coming you're gonna have to return the favor and give her something nicer she'll remember biggrin.gif

My SSD Recommendations:

Plextor M5 Pro is top dog imho (by a hair)...than Corsair Neutron GTX...they trade blows on different bench tests. However, I think the Plextor M5 Pro has slight more efficient (better?) recovery/trim/gc support (due to custom firmware)...and I personally value that over unnoticeable speed difference.

That said, I believe Corsair Neutron GTX has a higher ceiling limit with its LAMD controller (if they update firmware, I don't think Corsair is as proactive as Plextor with firmware support)...though I am not sure how much/or if it's even possible to get more juice from SATA 3. I could be wrong, so don't quote me on any of this.

Others that are just as good: Plextor M3 Pro, Corsair Performance Pro, Corsair Neutron (non-GTX), Plextor M5S/M3S (non-pro), Samsung 830, and Vertex 4..

Just stick with any of these and you'll be fine...you won't notice a difference between any of them tbh. Get whichever you like..or whichever is on sale.

Sounds good. I'm going to get flamed for this..but..

I personally won't get the Crucial M4 or the Intel 520...yes they are fine and I'm sure you won't notice any difference..but imo for that price the Samsung 830 & Plextor M5S are more appealing..Vertex 4 is not bad either, but I rather take Samsung or Plextor if we are just looking at under $100. Crucial M4 is kind of outdated and lags behind significantly in some benchmarks and Intel 520 is Sandforce, though yes its pretty much bug free and works well (actually one of the best Sandforce SSD on market). I just cannot fully trust Sandforce given their history...Marvell is overall better/safer choice imo. But yeah, any of those will be just fine. smile.gif

Ah, cool. Well you you want the best it would be the Corsair Neutron GTX vs M5 Pro. I haven't really compared either. Both should do. Samsung will maybe out last then in writes based on what the 256GB 830 can do lol.

for 128GB i would be looking to spend ~70-80 for on atm.
