The OCZ firmware update is not destructive. But it needs to be attached as a slave drive for the update. Easiest way to do it is with a usb stick actually.

Luckily no BSOD issues for me so far but I can attribute that to having the latest firmware also. One thing that is a little annoying is that I have the OS on my SSD and OCZ state not to update the firmware if you have the OS running on it, then again I could update from windows installed on my HDD .Not sure if it will wipe the SSD contents however.

How do you go about doing it via USB out of interest ? I think when the time comes I can likely update the drive FW from another OS on the a mechanical drive if it comes to it.

Glad you're not having issues. I hate how the SandForce drives up date too. it would be so much easier if they made a .iso updater like Crucial. I don't think you will lose any info though if there is a new update. I've updated a few SandForce drives with the OS on them from the OS without data loss. But always have a back up just in case.

Yeah I wish the Updater was a little better than it is but if you guys are saying its not a destructive update then that pleases me.
It is just wierd that on the site it states

It leads you to think there would be an issue with data.''Drives must not appear as "Drive0" for updates. Please ensure update is not performed on a disk set to primary.
