What is it about the top drives in this chart that makes them quite a bit faster than the others? thats now how i would have pictured the top drives (mainly the samsung 830 and the crucial m4 lagging behind by quite a bit)

I don't think one conclusive test in enough to say one is better than the other. I have seen numerous benchmark tests where SSD "X" came in first for load times in Game "1", and SSD "Y" came in "4" for Game "1" when in Game "2" , SSD "X" came in "5" and SSD "Y" came in "2"

What I notice though is, the higher the number the size of the disk the slower the load time? Meaning would the load time be the same or quicker on an SSD that is 128gb of the exact same in 256gb?

I believe this is because the 256GB and 512GB version use the same amount of nand chips, but every chip has double the amount of space which does not help performance. For the Samsung 830, the 256GB model is the fastest. Actually the 128GB version is also faster than the 512GB version.

I never looked at it further, but I can imagine that this could also be true for other SSD's.

Some examples: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/639?vs=640 The Vertex 4 128GB and 512GB are almost equal with a slight edge to the 512GB version, but not as much of a difference as with the samsung 830.

4k write speeds in CDM and AS SSD on 480gb sandforce drives are terribad.

You assumption was indeed correct when looking at the 256GB vs 512GB Samsung 830. It is different for every type of controller though like I showed with the Vertex 4. There are a lot of factors that decide if a larger model is faster or slower compared to the smaller model and therefore I would not say that your assumption is correct for all SSD's. In fact, I think that with most SSD's, the larger models are faster.
