Will there be a 6 core Ivy Bridge CPU

Thread Starter
Hi I was wondering if their ever will be a 6 core ivy bridge CPU. Recently Intel leaked slides on their upcoming ivy bridge platform
in which they didn't list any 6core for 2012

6, 8 and 10 cores will be on socket 2011. Mainstream only gets a quad
post #5 of 7
yeap, intel has stated that ib and haswell(the next architecture) mainstream chips will be quads. If they would put 6 cores on mainstream then who would buy the high end? tongue.gif its not like they need to compete with anyone *cough*amd

Given the current CPU climate, that is the best decision.

And that's a fine thing for most people.

Until most applications start needing more than 4 cores I see no reason for Intel, or even AMD for that matter, to focus on adding more cores while forgetting about Performance per Core as there are still many popular games and programs that do not benefit from more than 1-2 cores.
