I almost pulled the trigger on Hoth's Sr-2 this afternoon. But then I got a lead on a 4P LGA1567 system for mega cheap. I think its going to come with 4x E7-8870. Not 100% sure tho. Going to have to run that down for now.

Define cheap... a g34 4p of 6174s will out produce a 4p of E7-4870s (which are the same chips as E7-8870s but only for 4 way).... I have played with both.... and harbringer beats both biggrin.gif

I'll get my two i3's on this stat lol. After the first of the year I should be able to get those i3's swapped with 2600ks and put up some decent points. biggrin.gif

you did get the memo that thread hack won't work in Jan....

They are upping the minimum for bigadv to 16 threads and reducing the deadline time to enforce it.

The idea behind this thread was to move the team towards bigger things or just accept less ppd...

I thought the idea behind the thread was to motivate more folks to start folding, but thanks for your input.

Isn't the requirement as of 1/16 16 physical cores to meet the speed requirement?

Thats not set in stone yet. The 2600k's might still be able to finish the 6903/6904 units with enough time, just not as much of a time window. I think its gonna be the like 2500k's are at this moment in time, they cna do a 6903 work unit but need to be pretty much dedicated.

Obviously we will take everyone we can get. However, as a whole we need to start pushing bigger hardware as to not fall be hind the curve. Every point helps, and we fold for a cure; however, people need to reaize there are systems with more than one processor. Instead of buying a 2600k or gpu farms for folding, people need to know there are better solutions.

But, it is not to say we don't want i3s and 2600ks, we just want to people to remeber there is more out there.

OCN is glad to have you folding. thumb.gif

and i'm guessing ivy bridge won't be as good as 2011 either, since why would intel want to compete with themselves...

Isn't AMD also working on bettering Bulldozer (like upping their transistor count or something)? wonder how much better those will do at folding then their current versions.

and more on topic, we could always do a fundraiser to build a monster monster MONSTER rig/farm for some deserving folder (like Z tongue.gif*), as long as they don't mind the extra electricity consumption?

*I can just imagine Zs face if we do this:
