This is a potential opportunity. Not just from Buckwheat's company but any company..
What is our status? Is this a nonprofit group or what? If we have some sort of nonprofit status or equivalent that can open up many doors for free stuff that can be directed this way.

Got in this morning and the machines are not as good as what the manager told me. Well at least the ones that were unlocked this morning that I was able to power up. I am hoping I am wrong, and the ones they want to get rid of are not just this stack. Not sure they are worth $300 at this point. There appears to be ~15 of the first and ~30 of the second. I really don't have a lot of time to power up all of them.

This one is worth it, so I am going to see if I can take this one home this afternoon:

386

We have donated to churches workers attend and schools workers have graduated from. If there was a non-profit that was not called Overclock.net F@H Team I would be willing to fill out the paperwork at least. I am 99% sure they would not ship them to people and do not know if they would let me pick up the equipment. I can ask around. I think our managers would at minimum look up the non-profit to make sure it was legit and I am fairly positive they would not consider places like OCN, [H] or even F@H something they would want to donate to. Not that I would want to deceive them, but if the organization statement was generic like a foundation dedicated to the exploration of cures for diseases like Alzheimer's through complex computer modeling. They might go for that.

Sorry about the poor results so far with the server search. It further proves that sometimes upper management doesn't know everything.

Does anyone have access to free electricity? Like living on campus or something?

We could all donate hardware and have it run where someone isn't paying for electric.

Just a thought...

I've got a couple of spare video cards, motherboards, and old processors....I'm sure with enough old free stuff we could get some power behind this.

Just my $.02

My landlord is moving back home in 1 week so his room will be empty, I pay rent and electricity is included as a flat rate. Hence why I'm able to run 4 computers 24/7, my 3 sig rigs, and an HP Probook 4510s

So I setup one of the 16 core 7320 machines. Now keep in mind, this has 1200W redundant supplies so its going to draw a decent amount just sitting idle...

But on a 7153 project, its getting ~26k PPD(2:40TPF) so far under Windows. I was getting roughly that on regular smp on my 4.6ghz i7 under Windows. I saw a nice improvement switching to Ubuntu so my guess is you would see similar increases. So its basically a massive power hungry 2600k that natively will be able to run -bigadv after the changes, for roughly half the initial start up price of a 2600k.
