Need advice on DAC/ headphone amp, decent speakers and nice mobile headphones.

As it says in the title.

I want to stick something between my dt770's and my xonar d2x to beef up the sound quality a bit.

Currently looking at a Cambridge audio dacmagic As I understand it this works as both a DAC and an Amp, anyone have experiance with it and or suggest any other products of similar quality and/or price?

Also need a set of desk/floor speakers for watching movies or whatever, need something cheapish but decent quality, currently have Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's short listed but again if anyone have any input or advice that would be great.

Finally I have some AKG k450's for listening on the move but I find they lack something i cant quite put my finger on but i find them kind of fatiguing to listen to for a long time, I'm looking to replace them any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The CA DacMagic is just a DAC, it doesn't have an amplifier stage. Personally, I don't think it's worth you spending too much on a DAC and headphone amp for those headphones, if you plan to upgrade the headphones at a later date then it would be a good investment.

The Wharfedale Diamonds are great, you should be able to find a used pair for £50/60 in good condition, AVForums classified section is a good place to look. You also need an amplifier for the speakers, do you already have one?

Fair enough any suggestion on what might be a more sensible level DAC to go for? That said I wouldn't bet on me not having replaced my headphones sometime soon, I've only just started getting into decentish quality audio equipment and I would be surprised if i didn't get more into it as time goes on.

While the Cambridge DAC Magic is a nice sounding DAC, it sadly uses the same DAC found in 200 dollar DACs. That DAC Magic is 400 in the US or so, I'm not sure how much it is in the UK, but at 400 dollars, that's not a good deal. You could find better for that price.

Assuming you have ~$400 to spend, I suggest looking into a receiver for the speakers with a headphone amp.
