Stock 6970's or ASUS CUI II 6970's

Should I get the stock looking ones which have 1 pci bracket inbetween them or should I get the asus which are 3 slot cards and will be touching.

If this is for your sig rig I have to ask, why?

In answer to your question, it's pretty much up to you, if you were going with the air coolers then I'd go with the CUIII otherwise throw a waterblock on each of the stock 6970's.

Any reason why you're leaving the GTX570's, it's a performanceless upgrade tbh.

I will just to give you a heads up other than the obvious of the core/memory clocks, this is the difference from reference-design 6970, then decide what you want.

Asus 6970 DCII has 2 dual-BIOS switch with additional function below;

The switch option is to enable DVI-Single-Link with all Display Ports enabled. The other option is to enable DVI-Dual-Link and disable all Display Ports.

DVI Single Link = Max 1920x1200
DVI Dual Link = Max 2560x1600

Im thinking of getting just 1

It's a good card and if you have no plan to watercool and have space for 3 slotter. Otherwise, I'd just get reference-design 6970.

well i have enough room for 2 3slot cards but they would be touching. but if i get the refrence design they will have 1 slot of room between. also dont plan on water cooling right now or in the future
post #9 of 32
For starters, the DCII cooler will keep your card cooler than a reference design cooler. And secondly, if you look closely, the DCII doesn't actually take up a full 3 slots. From the pictures, it looks like the cooler extends to about two and a half slots, so there would be about half a slot of space between two cards for breathing room if you decided to go with crossfire.

Dont get DCUI II.
1) As one card it will run cooler but when both in CFX the top card will cook because all the heat is just going up.
2) Stock Reference has more room and the Top is not effect much,
3) Having 2 card dump all that heat in the case will increase CPU and System temps.

Had AXP and was not impressed with CFX performance. TOP card was 20C hotter even with Crazy HAF X Airflow and 100% fan speed.
