4gig of RAM is just not cutting it...any longer (Answer; Buy more cheap RAM!) - Page 2

When you overclock, you don't want to put more RAM than you need. I'm very happy with 6GB and I'm a "single application focused" kind of guy, I don't play a full screen game with 10,000 background applications running. On my desktop I usually have FireFox opened with a few tabs, my media player running, my email client running, Steam in the background and that's about it and I'm always very far from hitting 6GB.

What program do you use for the RAM drive?

RAMDisk is a program that allows you to create RAM drive. I use it to cache Firefox, IE, watch big movie, and sometime DVD copying.

4Gb in a system today would be painful.

Not for most users.

I've never had a problem with just 4GB of RAM in my computer. At the time, I couldn't justify 8GB and the price (even though it would have been a cheap upgrade). Once I get more spending money, and can actually max out 4GB, then I'll upgrade.

16GB 1600 9-9-9 at 1800 9-10-9 @ 1.5v and all my other overclocks... ya, 16GB hasnt held back my OC very much. biggrin.gif

Ramdisk, VMs, loads of programs open at the same time, no pagefile, you name it, and it was possible to get 16GB for $60 on newegg not too long ago, possibly still is... Seriously, how can people use -just- 4gb? The only systems I have with 4GB is my old laptop and my P4 rig, both of which are 32-bit.

4gb is fine, i just can't cope with 2gig ram o_o
4gb ram is enough for me because the bacground and system only use about 1.5gig ram at a time, this leaves me with around 2.5gig to do w.e i want

http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk you can use up-to 4gb free, after that you need a licence. If you use Linux, its as simple as using the terminal. There are probably more out there if you look, but this is a simple solution.

Oh man, you have no idea what many is. I keep 20 open in Chrome as standard, and commonly get up to 200+ spread over 4 or more windows, not to mention the 12+ YouTube tabs that I don't count in the normal batch.
