Final Fantasy VII numerous revival requests: why oh God WHY?

I've played final fantasy games since super nintendo (Ceccil anyone?).
I've played ff7, and it was great. WAS.

I'm not sure what people expect when they ask for a remake:

-Just the sotryline? It was good, but... it would be the same, doh... all surprises lost etc.
- Game mechanics? Lets face it, they suck. Turn based combat, so many random encounters it made you want to kick your dog (figure of speech people, figure of speech), no freedom of choices...

Guess I just love the new age of RPGs. Maybe it's just me, but the turn based combat is something I don't feel like coming back. Still have Japan as a special place. Metal Gear Solid for ps3 was awesome... Catherine (PS3) awesome too. But both games, in my opinion, came a long way.

My opinion is: an aweosme game for the time, but best left in memory lane. I couldn't play it again, remake or not, if my life depended on it (figure of speech again, just that).

So... for you undying fans: what is it you really want?
1) the same game with updated graphics?
2) a whoke new game in the setting of ff7 (woudln't be ff7 though)?
3) something else I don't see.

I would prefer a, noty so much a remake, but maybe updated original 6 Final Fantasy Games , all on one Disc

Id be more interested in that than ff7 - Though I loved Sephiroth, at the time I was very Picky about Graphcis, and FF7 was some of the worst I ever saw,

I enjoy the random encounter, turn-based style RPG's. It seem like no one will make them anymore.

As far as what I, a Square (pre-enix merger) fanboi would want is FFVII-2.

There.
The characters have been used to death already imo.
I'm still hoping the japanese industry can adapt and make an awesome new FF.
I took a peek at the last one... but effrit, shiva as vehicles... well...
let's say I miss ffIX.

The story line IS fantastic. Playing such an awesome story with the graphical engines available today would be nothing short of fantastically epic. Plus, they could ramp up some extra scenes in the original cut scenes.

As for turn-based - thats the staple of the entire FF genre. The FF devs were the first ones to get turn based combat right, and continue to do it right. Random encounters were also a great time killer and way to power level between bosses. Static encounters are what sucks.

So, let's really face it: you think it sucks. The majority of everyone else loves the game mechanics.

Doh... yeah?
I think it sucks, that's why I came here and asked what the fans thoughts are... that's the reason of this post.
You did read the part "my opinion..." didn't you? no need to get hurt pal biggrin.gif

Anyways, my purpose here is to hear what people think about it, what exactly do they want when they say "bring it back".

My purpose is not to bash people because they like ff7.

Chill,
Alex.

TBH I'd just really like it in the state it is in as far as story and mechanics, but with ps3-level graphics. With squenix in the state that it's in though, it would probably just get botched up somehow. -.-

... but you'd like the same game with updated graphics right?
Would you play it all over again? That's the part that I would never be able to do. I'd find it nice that newer generations would get to know the game and all, but I wouldn't play it.
The story was nice, true, but I know the plot already. The mechanics, in my opinion, are not on par with newer games. Therefore, for me, no reason to play it all over again.

I would, of course, want to watch every second of the upgraded cgs =D

FF7 is basically when the FF series jumped the shark. FF series stopped being primarily about gameplay. It is more concerned with J-pop fashion, movie narratives, and angst-driven pre-teens/teenage main characters that save the world.
