Cpu Upgrade For noob.Dell Inspiron E1505

Thread Starter
A very good friend of mine recently got his first laptop given to him and i absolutely cannot believe how slow this thing is...He asked me to help him figure out what he can do to make it faster...

Dell Inspiron E1505 From 2006
INtel T2050 cpu @ 1.6 I945gm rev 03 chipset (Cpuz)
Win Vista X86
512 ram

I want to upgrade the processor and cpu..
This kid isnt the type to listen when you tell him just to buy a new one,so i will have to buy the parts...

I am very handle with desktop computers, but have only done like 3 laptops and one netbook..

Ive searched a little online, and am confused..

I would really like to upgrade to a 667 bus speed but not sure if i can..

Could someone give me some advise?
I found a very helpful link on this...But couldnt find anything further that made sense to me...HELP!

And thanks again for being here for me folks! This is my favorite website!

Get a new laptop. That e1505 is so old. The useful life of a laptop is about 2-3 years before almost everything in it is obsolete and hardware starts degrading... Especially on a laptop, I wouldn't be surprised that you start getting dead pixels on the screen. a 3+ year old screen, in my experience, starts showing dead pixels.

Maybe look on newegg for laptops. Maybe if you don't have much $$$ try a recertified one...

Yeah,i wasnt sure if you had read this part...But this is for my friend not me...I would never use this peice of sh#@

My friend is one of those guys, who would rather spend the money to upgrade rather than buying a new one...

No offense, but did you even read my post? rolleyes.gif

So again i ask, could someone maybe help me with finding a comp[atible upgrade cpu? And yes i already plan to purchase the ram

P.s, the screen actually is very nice..THIS GUY ONLY GOES ONLINE TO CHECK EMAIL AND FANTASY FOOTBALL,no gaming, and he is poor

Just throw some RAM in there for him and a fresh install of Windows 7, or even XP because that hardware is really lacking.

With a freshly installed OS, no junk in the background and more RAM it should be good enough for his usage. In fact, give it an SSD if he's willing to spend some money on it and it will likely be a responsive/quick little toy for him, then hang or freeze when he wants to encode a video or something. Lol.

Forget the people saying laptops degrade and stuff, and need to be replaced in 2-3 years. Dead pixels don't magically appear due to age. I've seen many laptops that are very old still in great condition without needing a refurbish or repair. The most beat up thing is generally the case because they're portable and as we all know portable things get damaged..

I agree with this post..Thank you...

But,he is speciffically looking to upgrade some hardware too...

So if anyone also knows anything about this chipset and an upgrade i would love you forever!

I guess one of my main issues is that one website states that this may or may not accept 667mhz cpu..

as it is currently running 533 i beleive.

So i would LIKE to get him a 667 chip, but i dont know if it can take it...

On that same token,im not sure which ram to get,533 or 667 ???? The ram i am assuming would depend on the cpu upgrade correct?
