First WC Setup. Low idle high load temps.

Hey,

Was look for some advice.

OK, I've got a PII 955. GT Stealth 360 radiator, EK Supreme Easy mount plexi, XSPC pump/res combo. 7/16 tubing. and some CM Sickleflow fans on the rad. Mounted in an 800D.

So, the problem is, When I first got this kit. I got sent the wrong CPU block, was an intel Supreme LTX, so i mounted it sideways using only 2 mounts, just to test. With it setup and a 2 generic 120mm case fans on the rad. I had idles of around 23 and loads of 32 on stock voltage. So, got the right block and 3 CM fans, got it all setup.

Problem is: I have idles anywhere between 20-26 C. But as soon as I load it, the temp "jumps" up to about 36-37. Like, as soon as you start prime95 the temp instantly jumps like 5-6C and then slowly rises to the max temp. It's about 5-6 C hotter than the previous bodge setup. Kinda strange no?.

The systems appears to be bled well, however there might be a small ammount of air in the rad, nothing major, and the ambient temp in this room is baltic!. probrably <15.

Tried reapplying the TIM and re-mounting, doesnt make any difference really.

The thing that strikes me is the JUMP in temp when you load the CPU. Surely it should be a steady climb?. Any thoughts are well appreciated. Paste is Akasa 455, but tried using MX-4 to no change.

as soon as you put load on the cpu it will increase the voltage used increasing temps my 2500k does the same

That is one of the funny things I noticed with liquid cooling. The brief time I ran my system on air, it did have a temperature spike, though it wasn't as sharp. There would still be a few degrees that it crept up to. On water, I pretty much hit my max temp instantly.

Nothing abnormal about your situation thumb.gif

Yeah my 2500K goes from 23-26 idle to ~60 load. My 955 was pretty steady around 40-50 only dipping into the 30's a few times after sitting idle unattended for a while, but I was running manual voltage on that. It's normal.

Thanks for the replies guys.

So now the heatings on and the room's a little more alive. Got pretty much 30 idle on stock voltage (1.35) guess that goes to 37-40 on load. Still seems a bit high for me, at a high voltage like 1.4, i'd imagine it'd be tipping into the late 50's. I was kinda expecting a bit more performance with the temps, at least on load. Guess I could try one more reseat.

What would be the signs of a bad paste application, im using the rice method just spreading it with the blocks pressure. Perhaps I should try less TIM or more?.

Btw only saying this cos the bodge setup managed 32-34C on load at stock voltage.
