Help with Audio install.

Thread Starter
Hi, I've been asked to install an ambient sound configuration at work, I'm a Computers guy and don't know a lot of audio but the basics.
The place is a hall of 130 ft long and i am planning on install 6 speakers along the hall.

I have this list now:

300 ft Audio Cable roll
2 tapes
1000 watts regulator
1 Home theater receiver of 500 watts
6 speakers of 100 watts each
4 cables of rca to stereo
2 cables stereo to stereo

The question is, am i missing something?

They're no audiophiles, just need to ambient the hall for the clients.

looks fine you just need some input for the receiver and to install all of it lol, also you should know by now that you are only allowed to bump a thread every 24hrs

Sorry for the bump, im about to buy the stuff, and for the input it will be either a PC or an Ipod.

only thing i have to ask is what is up with the 1000Watt regulator?

EDIT: also tapes? links to said items might help a bit more on explaining what they are

the "tapes" are electrical tapes for the audio cables and the regulator it's a generic regulator like this http://lagunanet.net/products/alaska-regulador/regulador.jpg

I have never done audio over that long of a distance but even so, if the receiver has enough outputs on it you should just be able to run speaker wire down the hallway and connect the speakers, i guess i am just having a hard time seeing where the regulator comes in headscratch.gif

The regulator is just to conect the receiver and prevent energy ups and downs, the same way we connect computers to regulators, dont you use them?

nope i have never even heard of them lol, only thing that i know of that has a regulator is my car for that sound system but never in home, just out of curiosity where are you in the world?

Unless you live in a 3rd world country with crap for mains power and are doing an install for a drug lord (harsh consequences for failure) I can see no reason to waste a dime on this "regulator."

I still don't understand what you mean by "tapes?" Do you mean "taps?"

Installation over long distances is generally performed with higher resistance speakers in order to reduce the effects of wire resistance. In your case, just use the level adjust on the receiver to modify the levels on the furthest speakers to make up for the losses.

What gage wire do you have and what is the impedance rating of the speakers?

I do live in a 3rd World country and here is very usual buying a regulator/batery like this http://images01.olx.com.ec/ui/2/26/44/37492244_1.jpg or the one i previously linked with your computer.

Anyway, i will be getting this receiver http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Yamaha+-+525W+5.1-Ch.+A/V+Home+Theater+Receiver/2053041.p?id=1218307633716&skuId=2053041 but still don't know what speakers to pair it with. There's a bestbuy near my house so i can get the speakers from there.

Thanks for the replies.
