The great PCI-Express 3 fight, and why it doesn't matter
Not sure if I'd invest in a new build or choose a GPU based on PCIe 3.0 option yet. Just some info to help you a bit. Take it as you will and hope this helps.

From my understanding, you will not be able to unlock the 3.0 speed until you have an ivy bridge cpu. One should be able to get the 3.0 card now and then the cpu when it is released. I would imagine that the GPU would at least be as good as a 2.1 is now. As of now it should not matter.

If you have the money to afford a $500+ card I say go for it.... Then, all you will need will be the CPU when it arrives.

Well yes, very true performance on the whole is much better. I meant that if your getting a 7970 thinking it's utilizing the PCIe 3.0 it's not translating into any more performance over the 2.0 that's all. Of course by all means get the better CPU - Mobo combo even without 3.0. Sorry for any misunderstanding. smile.gif

According to this list:

http://www.geforce.com/Active/en_US/en_US/pdf/PSU.pdf

Your power supply is certified to support 2x570's in SLI, so I'd say yes.

I'm a little disappointed in my EVGA 448 classified. Stock voltage is 1.063, which is the highest I've seen from anybody. I've undervolted to 1.05v and have it stable at 850/1700/1950, but the voltage is disappointing.

First question is, does anyone have 2 MSI N560GTX-Ti 448 Twin Frozr III PE/OC in sli? Second question is do you have them in the first 2 pci-e slots or is it better to skip a slot to help with cooling. Last question is how do they rate among other cards. The reason I ask is I am planning to get these for a new build and I hear the msi tf III are pretty good for OC and they keep pretty cool temps even under load. Any advice would be great, thanks.

Do you happen to have Shogun 2?

My single card rarely even cracks 70c in my HAF 932, but Shogun 2 runs it 100% balls to the wall even just sitting at the main menu, and will get up over 80c. Kind of irritating because it get's pretty dang loud. It is not the card's fault by any means. I know if I can stay under 70c in BF3, the main menu in any game shouldn't be so taxing.

At the default shipping frequency the EVGA GTX 560 Ti 448 Classified actually is a bit faster than a stock GTX 570. Of course the EVGA 448 Classified is running at 797MHz GPU clock.
