[XtremeHardware.It] Core Parking on Windows 7 - Page 8

It seems like WinRAR(4.01) is activating HT even with the default parked cores settings. When i run the benchmark, the cores unpark right away. And it gives the the same score with all cores manual unparked(6050).thinking.gif

i did it with winrar 3.92 and my benchmark went from 3800 to 5000megs and cpu usage went up to 60%.

Why would you change it to 64? 0 is where you get the performance boost:

LL

It's amazing how much misinformation is spread around here.

I am still unable to duplicate any of the performance changes seen on any of my hyperthreaded systems.

Only thing that is clear is that we need some sort of real testing methodology to isolate the possible changes of the core parking algorithm from the countless other factors that are no doubt skewing at least some reports one way or the other.

I'm going to check but I think the time it took to run through 3dmark Vantage also decreased (I'm referring to the loading times from one test to the next). What the heck does that mean? I'm on an Athlon II 640. I'm want to double check my results this weekend after my exams but can anyone try this out on an AMD system or explain?

This tweak is incapable of doing anything that would affect your CPU. What you are seeing is either placebo, or there are other factors involved.

Why? To undo the previous tweak so you have easier control over the feature with the power configuration control panel, so you don't have to dig through the registry every time you want to make a change.

There may well be some misinformation here, but removing the previous tweak is not one of them.

Just curious, with core parking enabled, does resmon.exe show that your cores are parked?

Why change to 0? Because that's how you fix the performance hit of Core Parking. How much simpler do I need to make it? Power control settings do not have any effect. Quit trying to make this more complicated than it is.

Just FYI.... That source's method does not work... My cores are still parked after restarting / shutting down.

You're not paying attention.

"Processor Performance Core Parking Min Cores" becomes a power control setting with the second tweak which unhides it.

Strictly speaking, your cores can't be parked regardless of settings. Core parking doesn't work in windows 7, but the variables still supposedly have some control over HT.

All you have to do is change it to 0. Pretty simple. I don't know why you're trying to confuse people. As seen by other posters in here, they don't get the difference between core parking min cores and processor min state. So just make it easy on them.

My cores are not parked after using (the correct method). I know the documentation states core parking doesn't work in windows 7 and I think you're definitely correct that this setting is working for HT and probably only HT, as shown in the screenshots I provided.
