[Rock Paper Shotgun] EA Origin Bans: Update Edition - Page 13

All we are merely saying is that since Steam's conception it has a proving track record for reliability and stability. Sure, their customer service needs some major work but no company is perfect.
Again, I would like to point out that Steam has very rarely done anything substantially wrong that hits the headlines. Origin has been out for under a year and it's track record for stability is in the dumps. Hands up who trusts Ea after these stunts?.....It must be pretty lonely over there on your own.
We're not saying Steam isn't going to screw us over, but all we have to go by is historical data and by that data alone it shows that Steam is a very stable platform and Origin is erratic at best.
Furthermore, you come into this thread throwing your weight around and even by the 10th page you hadn't even managed to figure out the exact nature of the thread. You presumed the guy had swore, and you had no idea that it was another persons wrong doings that he got persecuted for. What are you even doing in here other than trying to annoy people?
If you can't even grasp the threads actual topic, what's the point in even trying to have a discussion with you?
Good day, sir.

No one said anything about worshiping the post following it sure did say it for me.

I acknowledge the ban pages back about profanity. About how quoting/being quoted or mentioned in ban worthy post will get you taken down with them. It happened to me when I use to post on gamespot years ago. It sucks, but those are the rules of a PRIVATE organization. Accessory is the legal term if you want to be technical. These companies don't owe us anything and we aren't owed anything from them.

"It must be pretty lonely over there on your own."

Cause I'm really looking for acceptance and understanding on a PC forum. LOL, oh God!

You have a track record of a program that came out the gate absolutely BROKEN. You are not going to tell me from 2004 with the launch of Half-Life 2 and the weeks following where everything from being unable to activate, slow downloads and mystery updates that would absolutely break the games you wanted for a while were somehow good "track records"

I can't believe I'm reading this. I would honestly go as far to say Steam wasn't a good platform till it's redesign around the Mac launch. All my years of using steam and it just now feels like it should have 6 years ago. It shouldn't take 6 years to get a platform under control, to get a user interface with the professionalism of a 5 year olds creation Windows 95 paint.

Funny that it took the forced standards of apple for steam to do something about it! itunes was good right out the gate, had a functional and streamlined interface and all things considered you might as well say Origin did better than Valve right out of the gate.

I'm voicing my opinion on the facts you all choose to ignore because "Steam is da best! XD!"

The fact that being banned from forums prevents you from playing games (multiplayer or single player), that you can be banned for such a ridiculous reason, or that EA knows both of these are going on and refuse to do a thing about it. In the phone call, he even says he can no longer access Bad Company 2 which he purchased through Steam, not Origin.
I hate to jump on popular hate wagons, but EA seems to have written the book on how to treat your customers like crap. And "treating the customers like crap" doesn't even do it justice here. Taking back content the customer paid for because of a forum ban is theft in my book.

Pretty much this. EA must seriously be retarded.

If your going to be that picky you will be pretty limited forever. None of the game devs or publishes are perfect and they all have their embarrassing moments. Im sure they will fix this. Must be an oversight in their management.

Hell, I can see why you guys could be pissed off about EA resurrecting franchises that have been dead for over 15 years as a popular genre to make money(No I can't, lol), but there isn't any excuse to make freely available mods "official" and attach a dollar sign to them.
Steam is and will be a trojan horse because NO third party company should have any say, period, on what I can and can't do with my property. I, much like you and anyone else, shouldn't trust any company as far as we could throw them. A pleasurable experience doesn't mean they are trustworthy. Valve to me is no better than a corner hooker. Yeah she seems trusthworthy and clean, but when you end with a STD there is no to blame but yourself.

Counter Strike went retail back in 2000, before Steam was created. The two developers teamed up (Gooseman and Cliffe) with Valve to make it retail which is what they wanted. So it was the developers of the mod who wanted to make it a retail game, not Valve.

Garry's Mod 10 went to Steam because the designer wanted to be able to continue his work and to be paid, and also be allowed the use of the updated engine and not be limited to files outside of Half Life 2. He wanted full access to files from other Valve games like CSS/DoD:S/Left 4 Dead and so on. Knowing that if he got onto Steam he would also be able to keep every player up to date with the mod, with having auto updates through the Steam platform.

Team Fortress and Day of Defeat. Same thing with CS, the developers wanted it to go retail.

Ricochet, no idea what the story behind this as I've never played it, but I'm sure its no different than the others.

Again you completely dismissed all my points but one. Go back and read post 105, and 91 and actually respond to them instead of ignoring them. I can go more in-depth on all of them except Ricochet if you really want me to as well as to why they went retail but I kept it rather brief as chances are you'll ignore it.

As said before, you did not respond to any points made by the quote of the message you posted in reply to me.

Instead, as you have done for this entire thread, you decided to go off on one voicing your opinions on steam with pretty much nothing to back them up and making yourself look like a complete idiot.

Please let me know which programs you have created and how many people they have been distributed to so we can find some devs to critique them, until you do so, don't talk about what you don't understand.

Developing a program for one system is the easy part but broadening the spectrum across multiple hardware configurations is not an easy feat. I'm not defending Steam in the slightest and I agree that it was not very good when it was first release but they have been working their asses off to improve it.

To bring it in to perspective, BFBC2 was pretty broken when it was released yet it is a great game that a lot of people love.

This thread is about the issue at hand and not issues that may have happened a long time ago and have been completely resolved.

And finally, no-one here is saying "Steam is da best! XD!" and most people are not even bias towards it so yet again you have this paraniod idea in your head that has absolutly no justification.

You can be discontent with Steam until the recent Mac-Launch, but I've been using steam since 2006ish (possibly early 2007) and have had ZERO issues with the platform. You didn't like the way it looked? That's your complaint? Boo hoo. I hated the way iTunes looked, so that platform must've been terrible!

And you want to complain about how unperfect Steam was when it launched, but imply Apple's iTunes was perfect from the get-go is laughable.

Origin did better than Valve right out of the gate? I would hope so, they've only had SEVEN YEARS to smooth out launch problems.

EA Download Manager. EADM came out back in 2005, Origin is just a buffed version of EA Download Manager which had plenty of problems and has been out since 2005. Origin isn't something new that EA has done, it's remotely the exact same thing that EADM was besides the looks. From my understanding their platform has been in beta since 2005, sounds rather silly if you ask me!
