I call bs on this. The only thing I've heard of users being banned ENTIRELY from steam is for completely exploiting the steam service to obtain things you shouldn't have. I've heard of people being vac banned from particular games but NEVER from the entire service for only one game. As far as I remember, thats a violation of their own TOS since you have the cd-keys to the indvidual games.

Yeah, Origin / EA is the reason I haven't bought BF3. I was pretty excited about playing it until I heard about the included "service"... I've got plenty of other games to play. I don't want to play it on Origin, I like Steam just fine. If it ever comes to steam, i'll get it. Some people might call me crazy but whatever.. it's just a game and I'd rather not deal with Origin or give EA my business

There are two known issues I've come across with Steam via horror stories.

1. Unable to recover a hijacked account. Some people have posted credit card information to Valve about recent purchases after their accounts have been hijacked and Valve have still refused to hand the account back over tot he rightful owner. This in my opinion is kind of worrying seeing as credit card information is most probably the best evidence you could provide.

2. Having your account permanently locked due to a single dodgy game. In my opinion they should just remove the game from the games list and give you a warning, maybe even a 3 strikes system, even then that's harsh. If you paid for games legitimately you should be entitled to those regardless of any future actions. They should never, ever ban your whole account whilst you have legitimate games in there. However I have known of loads of instances were someone activates a region locked game via proxy, or has a stolen key and Steam simply ban the account with no questions asked.

I remember the COD BO fiasco, in that instance they actually just removed the game and gave the user a warning, but only due to it being a region locked key, not a stolen key. That's the correct course of action but sometimes they just outright ban accounts.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that.

Any GFWL or EA game that goes onto Steam (or at least the majority of them) insist that once the game starts up, you log into that respective account. This story is proof of that seeing as not only did EA ban his entire games library, it affected his account on BFBC2 in Steam too. Fortunately I reckon he could create a new account with a new email address and still play that game via Steam, however that is far from the point. Steam games are affected by this too.

I really don't get this "moral high road"

I mean seriously...it is a rated M game where you KILL people. This goes for everything really. Look at TV and movies here in the US. Most television shows and movies will be border line porn, extremely violent, or showing human bodies getting cut up. All this stuff could actually hurt some one if it happened in reality. I could walk down the street screaming the F word at every person I come by...and it would not effect their lives beyond perhaps startling or scaring them for a few seconds. I just don't see the big deal or how a few letters in a certain order could offend anyone.

Honestly, I am more worried about a word like stupid...since that is an actual defined word with a universal meaning. Pretty much all of the profanity words can be used to give a compliment if used correctly. Kind of hard to to give some one a compliment with the word stupid in the sentence..."Well that dress doesn't look stupid"...yeah...that wouldn't work very well. If my kids swore...i wouldn't be overly concerned, I would tell them that it wasn't nice to say and go on with things. If my daughter says "stupid" she actually gets in trouble...my son isn't old enough to talk yet, but he will get the same deal.

I completely agree with everything you have said. Well put sir!

On a side note, no-one has mentioned yet so I'll throw it out in the open... Pirates must be having a field day on this, I can't even begin to imagine the amount of people that have been banned and instantly pirated the games or even the people put off by the bans pirating instead of buying at all!

As if DRM and region locking wasn't creating enough piracy, now they are taking away an arsenal of games from each play for something that they say on a forum.

They're literally punishing the people that pay their wages. I think they often forget that.

Maybe they don't want a bonus in the years to come?

Those are only pirates that I think are morally excused...it's like if they bought a ticket to a heavy metal concert and got kicked out because they were too loud in the stands...and this was a never ending concert that once you bought a ticket to you could go to over and over.

I just don't understand banning...I can see a three strike and your out rule with cheating, but anything some one posts on a forum will have no effect on game play.

Well seing as they have no filters for language, how in the world can they have the right to ban for it? This forum censors the hell out of what we say, and in doing so avoids this type of issue with people writing vulgar comments. I have said some pretty horrible things about EA/Dice on the forums, and if they ban me from it and I can not access my games you bet I will have my attorney send them a letter about violating consumer rights. They can not take your money for a game which require the use of their client software to work, then ban you from palying it because of something you are free to say in this country. I could care less about their "Corporate Policy" on language. They can ban you from the forums, but they have zero right to charge you money for their product then decide they just do not wnat you to use it anymore. That would be like a car company remotely shutting your car down so you cant drive it anymore because you said something bad they did not like on a car forum they monitor.

EA and Steam for that matter have got it into their heads that they are the Alpha and Omega. They can take your money and then decide if they feel like letting you use it. Sorry, not gonna happen. People need to scream at the top of their lungs about this. They need to contact the FTC. I do not care about the EULA either. It does not supercede Federal law with regard to consumer rights to use a product the purchased in good faith.

I see a big lawsuit in EA's future.

OK, was thinking of buying BF3. Now it seems like a good idea to skip it altogether.

Right on brother.

Before all of these issues, I was majorly hyped about BF3. Even though I wouldn't get banned because I would never post on their forums (just can't be bothered, no real reason behind it tbh), just out of principal that other people have done, makes me not want to give that company any more of my money.

ditch EA forums, post on OCN.

done =]

i personally ignore the EA forums, except for the post where it asks for what errors you're getting (which are, amazingly, still not fixed, gj). since this is a decently wide-spread game, there isn't really a shortage of ppl who are willing to discuss this in local forums or community sites, i don't see the need to post in the EA forum other than to seek technical help.
