This game has the best and widest selection of character customization I have ever seen in a massively multiplayer online game.
You can also customize your vehicle, higher customization limit is allowed for premium users, with all kinds of decals and paint schemes and accessories once you've unlocked them. The game also allows for a custom 5 second theme song that plays whenever you kill someone. You can import music into the game and other players near your vehicle will hear it. There is also proximity VOIP that will allow you to hear the other team if they are nearby and using the in-game VOIP.
They just updated it and added a couple districts with 12v12 deathmatch and 16v16 point control modes. It is free-to-play and is definitely worth checking out IMO. The best way I could describe is is like an online version of Grand Theft Auto. A single district supports 50vs50 for a total of 100 players per district. Missions in these districts are only up to 10vs10 however. My only complaint is that some of the game modes have the winner determined by whoever touched an item or held a point last rather than which team held it for the longest period of time. Also once you hit 195 on both a Criminal and Enforcer character there isn't really much to do, but that will take a good while especially without premium.
You do not have to pay to have fun in this game, although it can be very frustrating at times and the time-to-kill is higher than other games. You can buy weapons with real money, but the weapon you start with is a decent general purpose weapon. Every weapon can be countered. For example, shotguns are only effective within 20m but are a two hit kill. Sniper rilfes are also a two hit kill but you are unable to sprint while carrying one. This can be countered by switching to your secondary however or buying the scout version of the sniper rifle from the ARMAS marketplace with real money. The OCA sub-machine gun can be annoying up close, but you can out-range it by being at least 30 or more meters away from the user. This works better in the Waterfront district which is more open than the Financial district.
I've put at least 100 hours into this game and I'm just over half way to rank 195 on my main Criminal character and barely out of the low ranks on my alternate Enforcer character. I had premium for two months and also bought a silenced OCA. I was able to buy 6 months worth of premium and the permanent silenced OCA for only $15 during a 100% credit rebate promotion after a recent patch. Overall it is quite a fun game especially considering it no longer costs anything to play.Edited by Improvidus - 12/7/11 at 11:30am
