ive played bf3 on high and ultra with a 5760 x 1080 resolution on 3 monitors, and i honestly cant tell a difference aside from the massive hit in fps you take when switching to ultra. although, im not exactly paying attention to every fine detail either. just my 2 cents. im also the worst person when it comes to upgrading as i just enjoy building computers and tend to find excuses to upgrade all the time, regardless if i need it or not.

when comparing ivy to sb-e, in a gaming atmosphere, you wont see a difference between the 2 procs due to your performance bottleneck not even being close to being reached based on both of those cpu's. imo, the differences between the 2 cpu's is going to be in folding/benchmarking/intense rendering or analysis type scenarios, which even then you're still talking about the 2 most recent consumer cpu tecnhologies.

for gaming, either cpu would be more than enough. you will reap more benefit from sli'ing an additional vid card and getting that ssd upgrade.

edit: hyperlite ver 2.0 rig in my sig is the machine i am talking about being able to run bf3. and it currently has 2 480 gtx's in that rig now and was still achieving that. bf3 is actually extremely well optimized for being as graphically intense as it is.

Actually, your likely to see more performance in Gaming regardless of resolution on IB than SB-E

why?

when you can pull 60/100 fps in bf3 on ultra/high with a i7-950/960 at stock clock spanned accross 3 monitors, i dont see how upping to sb-e or ib would give any noticable benefit. i dont mean to keep using bf3 as the comparison point, but it is one of the best benchmarks to use atm as far as pure gaming is concerned.

im not sayign one is better than the other when comparing sb-e to ib, im just saying in a gaming atmosphere, the processor upgrade between the 2 platforms is going to be negligable.

I will only be using one monitor for right now - might do a dually set up the end of next year... just a single 1920 x 1080 the GTX 560ti Classified OC'ed to 900Mhz (which I already have read can easily be done with it being stable) and current 2500k OC'ed to 4.3Ghz (mild) will do just fine. I will probably upgrade to the Ivy 3770K when I upgrade the monitor to 2-23" screens.
