Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 (possible driver issue?)

Im having a weird issue my guess is the driver, If i play Skyrim on ulta with my card overclocked in Catalyst Control Center every few minutes the picture would freeze or the screen would go black while sound keeps playing then it would recover and the picture would come back and play again, this happens 3-4 times before the game crashes, but if i run skyrim on high on factory clocks it runs the game fine at 40-60fps 50-70% GPU load between 40-60C.

First id try OCing in Afterburner. Normally nothing but bad comes out of OCing in CCC. Depending on what driver you are runnin =id also try rolling back to the latest NON beta. 11.10 iirc. Havent looked in a while.

But since your saying it normally happens while OCed id try Afterburner first. Also leave it up and see what your temps max out at while OCed on Ultra. You may be getting hotter than you think you are on an auto fan.

Alright i did an OC in afterburner and the same thing happened, i set my fan speed to 60% and my temps never went past 60C, where exactly can i download the driver since this is a new card...also i tried it on ultra with the driver that came on the CD the same thing happened, i can play Crysis 2 on max setting with no problem at all which is a more demanding game than skyrim so im sure there arent any hardware issues.

hum, ok
Latest driver is 11.11 here.
Previous drivers (11.10 and later) here.

Um you dont have a system listed so Im just guessing you have 64bit. That is what these are for. If you need 32 bit go here and input your info.

I tried the 11.10 driver and the same thing happened, from what msi is showing me it looks like the driver is crashing when gpu usage reaches 100% only on ultra i tried it both with AA and AF on and off.
It works perfectly on high quality though even when gpu usage is at 100%.

Ok I'm at a loss now. Have you tried running ATItool or furmark to see if you are having any errors? Unlikely seeing that you haven't had problems on other games, but worth a try.

Skyrim ay just be stressing the thing in a different way from the others.

And BTW your System is showing now. thumb.gif

I ran a furmark benchmark in 1920x1080 and i got a few artifacts with my card maxed out ( 1000/1250) temps were peaking at 70C with fan at 60%, first i got little squares.....then little black dots that you wouldnt see unless your looking for them. I know these are artifacts but does this mean my card is bad?
