Get the Sensei, its build quality is far better. I have a Xai which is practically the same thing.

I actually just bought a G500 and the first night I plated a couple matches of SC2 and BF3 and after 2 hours the paint started to wear off wherever my hands touched it. It literally started turning black, really disappointing. This wont happen to the Xai or Sensei as Steelseries uses quality materials.

Also the G400 is not better in terms of build quality.

G400 definitely has better build quality, you must of had a bad one.

I'm curious as to why you need more than 3200DPI though?

From the looks of what you're looking for it seems that you want a gimmick mice more than a mice that's actually good. Lights and DPI all scream gimmick to me. If you're really stuck between the two then grab the Sensei and a hard pad while you're at it.

The G400 has better build quality than a Xai? You obviously have never owned a Xai before. The G400 is a cheaper mouse than the G500, and the Xai has far superior build quality than a G500. The G400 is basically a refresh of the MX518. I had one and it was made of cheap plastic and the coating started pealing. All optical mice are like this, that's why there all so much cheaper than high end laser mice.

When did I say they were not? But the fact is there are no "high end" optical gaming mice. The shell is almost always just a cheap plastic thing.

The performance difference is so small that it really doesn't matter anyways, you have to have severe OCD to notice.

Despite the fact that I own a G500 and love it, I voted for Sensei based on your post because the G500 has no lights (well, a cpi indicator that doesn't count).
The G500 is very big and comfortable, it's also heavy (a little bit too heavy for gaming imho) even without the weights. The software has been very criticized but I think it's fine, lets you store a lot of profiles (one for each game, I have like 10 right now) and it works like charm, very customizable, never has crashed, does everything. The main issue with the G500 is the tilt wheel, it requires some time to get used to click instead of tilting it... and you can always fail in critical moments.

The sensei I haven't tried yet, but looks flawless, has shape, customization, looks, non tilt wheel, weight (not so light tho), technosexual lights and display, etc...

G400 has higher build quality than the G500, not the Xai. Never once have I ever felt that the plastic was cheap on the G400/MX518, or have I had issues with the mice itself. Can't say the same with the G500 though, paint was peeled off just like yours and the logo was completely warn off .

Skylit made a excellent video to show how severe the issue with the sensor is. Not as noticeable on the sensei, but the Xai and G500 are whole different story. Clearly takes someone with serious OCD to notice that... sigh.
