Q6600 Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus Cooler - Overclocking Help

Thread Starter
Hi,

I received my Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus today and installed it on my q6600 (but soon I am going to get an Asrock e3 g3 board and an i5 2500k) (I am on a Asus P5N32-E Sli mobo and 750W PSU)

The temps went from 62oC to 20oC! But I can't seem to OC it anymore than 2.85GHZ (what it was on the stock fan).

On CPU-Z it says my Core Voltage is 1.072V (On Auto). I don't know much about voltages and I think that is my problem. I followed some guides, but they all put vCore Voltage to 1.5v+ which I think is way to high.

Do you know what I am doing wrong?

What baord do you have?

Post your rig specs and I can help.

I need to know the following things:

RAM how man sticks and how much, what speed, what timings, what voltage
board:
I need to know what board you ahve
CPU
I need to know VID and revision. If you don't know then run coretemp and it will tell you both.

Also I need to know the PSU.

wow nice vid.

Okay try 350x9 for now. Should be able to do that at around 1.35v CPUz if not a little more or a little less.

Also increase the NB voltage 2-3 notches
set term up to 1.36

Ok great thanks for the reply, but my mobo doesn't do FSB it does QDR FSB. I know that 1333 = 3.0ghz what would 350 x9 be?

I currently have all voltages to auto, so what should NB be by default so I know what 2 - 3 notches is and what is term? tongue.gif
(sorry im a bit of a newbie)

it would be 3.15Ghz and you need to look at the specs of your hardware to know what its "auto" is. sometimes it will say in the BIOS too if you go look at the V section. at least give you an idea

also 333 x 9 = 3Ghz
so 350 x 9 = ~3.150Ghz
see where this is going

All Intel CPUs/boards since Netburst have been this way.

1.0xxV is very low for a 65nm Core 2 Quad, so you've got plenty of headroom. 1.5V is about what 1.4V is for the 45nm Core 2s. Modern CPUs use, and thus can't take, as high of voltages as yours, so you generally don't see people talking about those types of values as much (outside of them being arguably relatively high). For your CPU, you're easily good up to 1.4V, more even if you wish.

Lol so i'm guessing 1350 is 3.150Ghz smile.gif

I have no idea where to find my Auto NB voltage :/

*Update*

I put the Vcore to 1.35ghz and FSB to 1350 and it posts.

*Update 2*

I put the Vcore to 1 less than 1.35ghz @ FSB 1350 and it's asking me to select between 'windows repair' and 'start normally', but for some reason my keyboard isnt working (but it's not crashed). But when I put it to 1333 FSB it posts weird.

You may be able to go MUCH lower on the voltage but i don't know. If you really want to push it to 3.6GHz. sadly after that I am not much help. I can help with core voltages and term but that is really it.

I have no knowledge or experience with nvidia chipsets and nvidia chipsets SUCK at overclocking quads. If you had a P45 board (IE the GA-EP45-UD3P) you could EASILY do 3.6 with almost no effort. I benched at 4.2.
